Journal Entry 4 : Input Technology of LEAP

The Leap motion is a sensor itself, but there should be sensor and controller and actuator in it. Since it has not been released yet, I do not get exact specification of the device. However, I could get some information from Web.

It uses two cameras and three infrared LEDs for sensor. The device observes a roughly hemispherical area, to a distance of about 1 meter (3 feet). It is designed to track fingers (or similar items such as a pen) which cross into the observed area, to a spatial precision of about 0.01 mm.

Someone assumed that the camera is Wafer Level VGA camera devices from Nemotek manufacturer. Multiple LEDs cast shadows of various parts of the hand onto the hand itself- self-cast shadows.

Wow, such tiny cameras. I expected the Leap to be out by now. Exactly how many cameras does it have?

These camera looks pretty cool. It reminds me of the spy movies when they place small cameras to capture people in action. What that part of the idea for this invention?

Do want. Those tiny cameras themselves make me want to have a LEAP!
