Making People happy and satisfy in any form is something that I love to do. Being an independent at an early age, working for a living and struggling for studying at the same time is very challenging for me. My name is Pemba Dolma, a current student at CityTech college. I am pursuing my career as a Hospitality Management. In the future, I would like to work in the hotel industry. I accomplished my Associate degree in Liberal Arts from Queensborough Community College in 2018. During my college years, I have faced so many obstacles on my way. However, no matter how difficult the situation was, I never lose faith in me and kept my headstrong enough to take the challenge to overcome. I believe trial and error period is the most important part throughout the journey of life. We must keep on trying and searching for the true destination until we find them. Never give up is the biggest lesson that I have learned during my college years. Personality-wise, I am a very friendly, extrovert, energetic and hard-working person. I love cooking, serving and traveling. When it comes to working, I am very responsible and passionate. This is just the beginning phase of my career. There is more to learn and explore. Hopefully, one day I will graduate from college with enough experience, knowledge, and skills needed in practical life.

My first step into the hospitality management field started in high school. I took a culinary class as kind of my major for high school since there were certain different field you could have studied in my high school. George Westinghouse high school had a culinary program a computer systems program and kind of an electrician program. I took the culinary classes and I had really fun cooking and learning so that’s what I decided for my career. after high school I decided to take a gap year until I started college to try and find a job, but it was very uneventful. i went to this program to get help on finding a job and making a resume and all the other necessary stuff you need but my first week there and they kicked me out because I was only 17 and they really couldn’t help me apparently. I came back a couple months after when I turned 18 and I went into a bunch of interviews but had no luck getting the second Phone call back to guarantee me the job so around April I started applying for city tech. in my first semester things were going pretty well until when I learned last December that I failed this class Hgmt 1101 before so now I’m taking it again I was really hoping to be cooking by now but I’m not very worried about it since I guess I’m getting a second chance at truly learning about the industry. In the end of my time at city tag I just hope I would have a good grasp on not just cooking but managing and the industry overall. I would also like to hopefully soon start working so I can get more firsthand experience that can help me with my future career.

Hello everyone, I am Melaya Vaz-Paddyfoote one of your fellow students here to learn about hospitality management. Growing up I have always been unsure on what to do in life at first I thought I wanted to be a Marine Biologist because I have a passion for animals but when I went to SUNY Maritime I realized this will be a lot of studying for me potentially not becoming a scientist. So I waned to do another passion of mines which is food, cooking, and servicing people with my own food truck or cafe. Completing the hospitality courses here at City Tech shall help me achieve that goal and so fare I really enjoy the classes here not too much work so I know I can at least pass with a high B or even Ace the class. I don’t have much experience in customer service the most experience I got was an unpaid internship at Brooklyn Aquarium where I set up learning stations or a touch tank and teach kids about NYC ocean life. I hope being in this branch of studying I’ll be accepted in to the Paris or Disney internship to build my people and working skills. I hope my generosity and determination will be acknowledged as strengths to always get my work done in and on time. I always push myself to complete my work no matter what.

Four years ago, I decided to work instead going to college. I worked at a restaurant, I learned how to cook; how to sever customer. In the those four years, I learned how to be a qualified employee. But I am not happy with being an employee for my whole life, I want to make a change. I want to have my own business. Therefore, I come to Citytech, I want to learn how to be an owner, and what is the important staff I need to know. I need to be a good leader to guide my own employees. I need to study hard and learn to be a better business owner. I need to watch my steps.

When I started college, I was thinking of pursuing on being a nurse and trying to get into the nursing program. For the first year of being in CITY TECH, I was in a Liberal Arts major but before getting into the nursing program I notice that I was something that I would want to be doing for the rest of my family. My family noticed that I wasn’t interesting in medicine because I was cooking and baking in my free time. Which is something important that this major consist of. Chossing to major in Hospitality and Management is something that goes better with me because it would be something that I like doing. I come from a Hispanic background in which food means a lot to the community and culture. I don’t go back that often to Peru but I can still experience food from countries that are not Hispanic which is a great thing. One day I want to have my own business like open my own bakery or something like that. Although, I don’t have working experience so I don’t really know how it is to work in a business but I have volunteered. I know how to achieve my goals even if sometimes is difficult to do it, I work hard for the things that I want even if I have struggle with myself to get there.

When I started college, I was very confused. I didn’t have any idea on what I wanted to do and college is very different from high school. My high school treated the students like babies and it was very easy to get high grades. So coming into college, I was very stressed out and unprepared. I recently started taking hospitality management classes because I want to work in a hotel or in a restaurant. I want to work in a business and eventually open up my own. But I never worked before so I don’t know what it feels like to work in a business and I think this major will teach me the skills to succeed in this field. Also I am from Brooklyn, New York and people from here are extremely underestimated. I want to make a difference and become a wealthy person. I am a hard worker so I will do what I need to do to achieve my goals but my patience is something that constantly brings me down. I want things to happen quick so I can have a good life as I get older but I know it takes hard work and dedication to achieve my dream.

I am a high school graduate who is now attending New York City College Of Technology. I came into college without a clue on what route I would take. As a liberal arts major I am trying out the Hospitality major to see if I would be able to pursue a career in this field. I enjoy cooking, baking, planning and management. Four of the most important things this major consist of. I come from a African background food and hospitality means a lot in my culture. Going to Africa this summer made me realize how important catering to people is. It feels nice when you are well taken care of where ever you go.In my culture we prepare food with a lot of flavor and different spices. I have experience working at my aunts west African market where I was exposed to different kinds of meats, peppers, vegetables and etc. I am very good at communicating and like things to be organized. These are two characteristics a business owner should have. This is a little bit about me career wise can’t wait to see where this college experience leads me.

Greetings everyone,
Personality wise, you will find that I am adventurous in that I love to travel and try new things from food to activities and most importantly bake and organize. As a determined student, my academic goal is to graduate with the minimum of a 3.0 grade point average. Throughout this process I hope to learn new skills, techniques, methods, basics and complexities of the Hospitality Management career options to find my true calling. However as in individual and aspiring baker/ event planner, my plan is to ace school and start up my own business that includes different parts of Hospitality Management such as event planning, baking, and even cooking so that I can be well rounded. Among my hopes and dreams, I also hope to one day publish my own recipe book and signature dishes that not only portrays my culture but a little bit of everyone’s culture. Aside from creating my own recipes from scratch, to work towards my goals, I am currently working at a small Japanese restaurant as a server because in order to go from server to head chef and even owner, you have to understand how to do everyone’s job as well as how important each one is. In the past, most of my experience and inspiration came from my family who loves to throw parties and the things that go along with it such as event planning, baking and cooking. All in all, I want to create and be proud of what I created because others love it too.
Best,

Born in Kingston Jamaica in the 1970’s, i grew up with a plethora of personalities around me. In fact, many people over the years have said that personality is in my DNA.
Though I “fell” out of high school and did not graduate, that didn’t stop me from doing what I ultimately wanted to do (hospitality). In 2007, I enrolled in a hospitality trade school back home, where I pursued a level II F and B captain Captain certification course.
In 2008, I graduated from said school as a certified level II F and B captain. Furthermore, I graduated top F and B student with four outstanding academic achievements under my belt.
Within that same year (2008), less than 30 days after graduating, I managed to land a managerial position at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville ( true story). I was in “awe”, this platform boosted my self confidence so much. I’ve since went on to manage other food and beverage outlets to include Accra Beach Hotel and Spa in Barbados, where I resided for almost two years.
Fast forward to 2020, I have completed my HSE in New York State, graduated high school and is now enrolled at CUNY City Tech pursuing my AAS in HM.
