This is where you’ll find info on your big assignments– like revisions, etc (info forthcoming!)

This is not the place to find weekly assignments. You’ll find those on our home page or on the “schedule” page.

REVISION TWO:

3-7 pages (or… a new medium!)

Once again, you can continue or revise anything you’ve written so far this semester. This can be one of our in-class assignments, one of your experiments or even the poems or story you revised in revision one.

This time around, you have an additional option. You can write in a new medium– that is, you can make a story into a comic, you can make a poem into a video, you can use a template on Canva to make your piece look like it’s been published in a magazine.

Please note: writing in new media is not required!! Words are enough!

REVISION ONE:

3-7 pages.

For the first revision, you will finish and revise something you wrote so far this semester. This does NOT have to be something you’ve already submitted to Perusall, but I do expect these to be a bit more “polished” than the first draft (you’ve read over it, maybe rearranged it, changed or added things to make it stronger.

This submission can be:

  • A series of 2-3 poems
  • A finished short story
  • One finished story and one poem
  • If you are working on a longer work of fiction and would like to submit a chapter, let me know.

I will be looking for:

  • Specificity (Concrete, Significant Detail)
  • Minimal “fluff” (text that doesn’t add meaning or mood, but just kind of takes up space)
  • A journey– something should change from beginning to end of poem or beginning to end of story. This can be HUGE (Anders gets shot in the head) or small (seeing wild geese fly through the air reminds me I matter)
  • Paragraphs: there’s no perfect way to decide paragraph breaks in fiction, but just try. You can always look at the paragraph slideshow if you feel lost
  • A Title/ Titles. Again, there’s no perfect way to write these, but just give it a shot!
