Week Two: What is a Poem? (Imagery)

  • HW: Read poem packet

Week Three: Form and Metaphor

  • Due Feb 13: Experiment 1: Submit two poems. You can use any of our in-class writing as a starting point or, if you like, write something new.

Week Four: What is a Story? Desire and Surprise

  • HW for Feb 15: Read “Bullet in the Brain”

In-class Feb 15: discussion of Feb 13 writing and Bullet in the Brain. POV Exercise

  • HW for Feb: Read Zoraida by Tanya Rey

Week Five: Plot

In-class Feb 20: Writing exercises (storymatic)

  • HW for Feb 27: Experiment 2! Write a short story or a scene for a short story using something we’ve learned in the past two weeks. You can use any of our in-class writing as a starting point or, if you like, write something new. (2-3 pages)
  • Note: we do not have class on Feb 22. Thursday classes meet on a Monday Schedule

Week Six: Plot and Revision 

In-class Feb 27: Unit 2 Due by 10 AM. Character Questionnaire and story exercise. Discussion of Zoraida.

  • HW: Write questions for Tanya

In-Class Feb 29: Class Visit with Tanya Rey!

  • Note: We won’t have class on Tuesday, March 5. Readings TBA

Week Seven: Revision One

  • Tuesday March 14: Revision 1 due. (4-7 pages) We will discuss this more in class.
