Hello everyone! This site is where you’ll find course announcements, including assignments, as well as links to the folders where you’ll upload your weekly assignments.
We meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:45 in Namm 416. Our first class is January 25.
Right now, the syllabus is still under construction (I’d like to hear from you all before I finalize assignments)
That said, here is some important info:
- You will have weekly writing experiments/assignments (approx 2-3 pages). These will be developed from writing we do in class. They are low-stakes, meaning you get full credit just for doing them
- You will have two major revisions and a final portfolio due. These will grow out of your experiments. These are given a letter grade. You also must complete these three projects to pass the course!
- You will receive points for our in-class writing experiments/assignments (again, just for completing them). If you miss a great deal of class, you will lose a lot of points. These assignments can not be made up out of class– due to the nature of the experiments, it is just not possible.
- You do not have to buy any books for this class, EXCEPT a notebook– we will be doing a lot of in-class writing and I’d like you to keep it all in one place. Make sure you bring your notebook and a pen or pencil to every class. For the first month of the semester, I’d like everyone to do the in-class writing by hand. This is because we tend to be less distracted and more creative when we write by hand!
- You will need to sign up for Perusall as soon as possible (instructions below). This will allow you to do the assignments and to upload your documents in a secure, private manner. You will need to be signed up to Perusall to do the coursework!
We’re here to have fun and to find your voice! You have something important to say that nobody else can say! With that in mind, you can not use Chat GPT to write your assignments (I have no interest in reading something you did not write). We’ll discuss AI more as the semester goes on.
Also, please note that we will be using this site and Perusall for this course. We will NOT be using Blackboard!!
My name is Wilson McKinley Clerville. I was born in Haiti and I enjoy sports (mainly Basketball) I am majoring in electrical engineering at CUNY New City College of Technology. I enjoy trying to solve problems in new and different ways, and enjoy working hands on with things like electronics. This is one of the many reasons I chosen this major. Hi my name is Jazmine Souvenir. I’m a junior and I’m majoring in Hospitality Management. My dream career is to become a restauranteur. A chef who owns their own restaurant. Currently I’m working as a barista in a cafe . Balancing work & school can be hard but I’m always up for a challenge. When I chose to take this creative writing class I hope to improve my writing skills and communicating skills. My hobby would be cooking and cleaning. As well as trying out new restaurants. Also I enjoy writing self reflections and doing self care things.
