Gallery

The photos displayed in the Pace Gallery are formal photos. Irving Penn took most of his photos dead center which gave the gallery a unified feel not much very surprising. The photographers subject matter was the human figure and features as well as fashion. Most of the photos where black and white giving it high contrast. Irving emphasized the textures       and where taken with shallow depth of field. I would describe to a friend that it is a pretty cool exhibit but its something that can take very little time to go though so its not a complete loss. The pictures had a very expensive and vouge-ish feel by taking the pictures in such a way that it almost looks like the subjects are above us. Almost all of the photos are taken at eye level including very strong leading lines leading to the subjects.

Across the Ravaged Land displayed some of the most visually pleasing photos I have seen. The photographers subjects was wild life. As soon as i walked in just to see how massive the pictures were just mad it sorting i enjoyed visiting. Almost feels like you can jump into the scene. I would tell a friend that they would jus have to go and see is gallery because words just can’t paint the picture its something they would just have to witness and admire. The textures and composition is just wonderful and you would just have to see it to believe it. Nick Brandt uses high contrast focusing on the subject where the textures are emphasized. The photos were taken at low angles with shallow depth of field but had an deep space fell to it. Lines where very curvaceous and natural.

The Mary Boone Gallery By Robert Polidori Had very color full but boring photos. The subject was a palace or mansion. The exhibit had a boring, regular, tourist type field trip mood to it. Unfortunately it was one of my least favor it. If I had to describe it to a friend i would say don’t waste your time unless thats what your into. It focused on the architecture, texture and interior of the building which as cool and all but its nothing mind-blowing. The photos had low contrast where all the textures where emphasized. They had a wonderful extensive DOF where every curve was in focus including deep space. The photos had straight leading lines paying attention to negative space and taken at eye level.

Danziger Projects had Hand made photos that were a bit more colorful which changed the mood through each picture. The photographer made the pictures by exposing light sensitive paper with textures of plants, she also altered the water to make different ripple effects so each photo was different. If i had to describe this to someone i would say its a wonderful place to bring someone on a date and teach them something new not to many people knew Susan Derges  made the pictures with out a camera. It had a very layer back relaxed mood which was achieved by they colors. The photos had high contrast where the texture was minimized. They had curvy natural lines where the Depth of field was a bit irrelevant being that it wasn’t a picture made with a camera and a lens but materials on paper.

The Yancey Richard son gallery had a very adventurous feel to it i found it very pleasing  and made me feel like i was big and the people where tiny. The subject was rock climbing and the vastness of space. I found it very interesting that the images where so modified that it was even vectorized. I fell that the white was very popping being that it took up most of the image. I would describe the gallery as a form of inspiration and to see it it kind of lets your mind free and can even clear it. This is achieved by the emptiness of the photos because Olivo Barbieri edited them taking large pieces of the image out. The Images showed low contrast  and emphasized texture with extensive depth of field. They were all taken at a high angle probably form a helicopter paying attention to negative space.

The David Zwirner Gallery had photos by Phillip Lorca DiCorsia. The photos had set up compositions where the subject was male prostitutes in Cali. Its was a bit amusing  but very spacious. The photos had a sympathizing mood where you kind of feel bad for the men. I would describe the gallery as something simple having a powerful message or feel to it. It almost makes you feel like your above the “models” and its a cool exhibit to check out. The photographer used very high contrast where the texture wasn’t as important as the whole image.  The images were taken at eye level with shallow depth of field but had deep space where there was  a great deal of positive space.
