Mental Health

There’s no wonder that our mind is a really powerful tool and it is what makes us more superior than other living beings. And I believe having a healthy mental well- being is more important than being physically fit. We all have good and bad days and even I’m not an exception. I’ve too been a victim of stress, anxiety, and depression every now and then and had moments when I didn’t feel like doing anything or just felt immensely miserably. I feel like everyone is struggling more or less with their ups and downs. So, mental health is a very important topic in our fast-paced world. I’m interested in this topic because stress, trauma and depression are parts of our lives and we should know how to face the challenges and talk about it more openly. I feel being mentally ill is not a diseased condition or something incurable, happiness is the key. Being emotionally unstable not only affects our mood or behaviour but also negatively harms our performance or self- esteem at work and makes us feel more isolated and lonelier.

My goal is to educate especially the students and the working class, who are more vulnerable, not to ignore their mental health and emotions and work on them on regular basis. I want my audience to be enthusiastic and optimistic even in tough days, and in this way, they will be more focussed and successful. I will use all three appeals: facts(logos), emotions(pathos) and credibility/trust (ethos). Logos- I want to talk about yoga, meditation, music therapy or simply pursuing a hobby that we love. All these activities boost positivity in us. Pathos and Ethos- mental health is a growing issue and now we can easily find movies and books dedicated to this topic which shows the confusing emotions quite well. I don’t want to project a short movie or any motivational speech as such. Instead, I think of having an informal discussion once a year in institutions where people openly express the challenges faced and share their experiences. We can get a chance to listen the first-hand stories and learn from them. This will help, not just them but all, to be more confident, compassionate and considerate of other people. This way our society can work together well and be more understanding about people’s sufferings. And no matter which field we choose to pursue in life later, mental health is something which we cannot afford to ignore and need to focus constantly throughout our lives. I feel like we don’t need any doctor to fight our inner battles, it is just that we don’t have to give up on ourselves and continue to live up.

Honestly, I think my Unit 3 project is coming along pretty well. My first draft is completed, I just need to revise it with new eyes to identify possible mistakes and see where I need to use alternative word choices and sentence structure to make my writing flow. I also want to revisit my RAB to make sure I have all the necessary information in my Unit 3 project to fully teach my audience about my topic. Lastly, I need to check the format/structure of my writing to make sure the information I provided is coherent and cohesive.

How well I believe I did

I think I did good on my research. The fact that I’m worried on the visuals of my video look bad may be a good thing since I’m not the greatest at creating visual videos but I feel like simple animations is excellent for my intended audience (young teens – young adults). I found information that I wished I had used on my RAB but it is perfect for my intended audience since majority young adults or teens can agree to this experience. My main talking point and biggest piece of information I found while doing research was that there are video games out there that have a pay to win system meaning you can progress in the game without paying, but if you put money down you’ll further progress faster than other players. Then there are popular games like Fortnite that has tons of kids asking their parents to buy them cosmetic items within the game. Under definition, this is gambling since one is risking at stake something of value in risk to gain something more of value. This is a highly talked about topic in my video since it can relate to almost any teen and young adult. This piece of information made me reflect that I had basically gambled my middle school lunch money just to progress my basketball player in a video game. So it was a good piece of info for my research but for me as an individual. At the moment of writing/sharing this I’m at my, recording my audio and editing into a video, stage. It’s been a learning experience, not only did I learn further more on my topic but I learned how to use adobe premiere. I learned how to use this editing software which may or may not come in handy but at least I have learned how to use it even at a very minimal level.
