Mental Health

There’s no wonder that our mind is a really powerful tool and it is what makes us more superior than other living beings. And I believe having a healthy mental well- being is more important than being physically fit. We all have good and bad days and even I’m not an exception. I’ve too been a victim of stress, anxiety, and depression every now and then and had moments when I didn’t feel like doing anything or just felt immensely miserably. I feel like everyone is struggling more or less with their ups and downs. So, mental health is a very important topic in our fast-paced world. I’m interested in this topic because stress, trauma and depression are parts of our lives and we should know how to face the challenges and talk about it more openly. I feel being mentally ill is not a diseased condition or something incurable, happiness is the key. Being emotionally unstable not only affects our mood or behaviour but also negatively harms our performance or self- esteem at work and makes us feel more isolated and lonelier.

My goal is to educate especially the students and the working class, who are more vulnerable, not to ignore their mental health and emotions and work on them on regular basis. I want my audience to be enthusiastic and optimistic even in tough days, and in this way, they will be more focussed and successful. I will use all three appeals: facts(logos), emotions(pathos) and credibility/trust (ethos). Logos- I want to talk about yoga, meditation, music therapy or simply pursuing a hobby that we love. All these activities boost positivity in us. Pathos and Ethos- mental health is a growing issue and now we can easily find movies and books dedicated to this topic which shows the confusing emotions quite well. I don’t want to project a short movie or any motivational speech as such. Instead, I think of having an informal discussion once a year in institutions where people openly express the challenges faced and share their experiences. We can get a chance to listen the first-hand stories and learn from them. This will help, not just them but all, to be more confident, compassionate and considerate of other people. This way our society can work together well and be more understanding about people’s sufferings. And no matter which field we choose to pursue in life later, mental health is something which we cannot afford to ignore and need to focus constantly throughout our lives. I feel like we don’t need any doctor to fight our inner battles, it is just that we don’t have to give up on ourselves and continue to live up.
