How Films make us better

Growing up in the 2000s era, I got to grow up with so many iconic childhood films that many of you grew up with as well like Halloweentown, UP, Ratatouille and many more.  These films shaped my love for movies, and I couldn’t be more grateful for these films because they allowed me to expand my horizon of films and get into more genres like horror, action, and comedy. But as a I got older, I started to realize how important films are to us as a society and how they have a huge impact on us that not many people realize. I wanted to go back and watch these movies that we grew up with to see the message behind them that I wasn’t able to understand when I was younger. As I watched the childhood movies again, I notice how they are giving us life lessons like how to speak up, to keep working on your goals, or to even take chances because not many of those chances come back. So, for my project for Unit 2 I decided to do my research on how these films can impact us make us do better.  As I scoured the internet for answers on how these films impact us, I learned that these films could help us find out who we are, who we want to be, how we want others to see us, and how we see the world around us.  This really struck out to me because as a student in college I’m still trying to figure out who I want to be and who I am, and I know I’m not the only college student still trying to figure all this out. It’s hard to figure what we want to be but you’re not alone. These films could help us with all that because most films are always giving out a message that you can use in the real world and could help us figure out who we can be. Continuing my research, I found a TED Talk on YouTube this video was about how a lady made a film about honor killings in Pakistan and how this problem needs to be stopped. This film won an academy award and lead to a law being passed that men in Pakistan would get jail time for honor killings, but honor killings continued in Pakistan, so she decided to take her film and show it to the people in villages and small towns that weren’t able to watch it. She took her film to her hometown just so she can spread the word and help stop these atrocious acts. Many people started to support her film and learned more about the world through these films. This goes to show films can make people better by speaking out about these horrible acts around the world and stepping up to make a change. Besides films helping us learn more about the world and how we can be a part of the solution these films also help us become more social with others and allow us to be a community instead of always bring each other down which has become the normal in today’s society. These films have helped us build friendships that we never knew we could have, and I love how these can bring people together and eventually could help each other out in the real world. These friendships can your world around and make us better people and it all could happen just because of one special film. As I start to conclude why these films are so important to us, I want you to know the most important thing I’ve learned so far.  The most important thing I’ve learned doing all my research on this topic is that films let people from all over the world to connect over a movie which helps us become a better society and once we become a better society, we will see how much of a positive impact these films can have on our lives. Films can range from telling us about things in this world that our sociecty won’t talk about or just giving us a beautiful life lesson or maybe even giving us a laugh when we need it the most.  I hope everyone around our age groups can now see the true importance of films and how they can eventually help us learn more about this world or more importantly learn about ourselves.

The topic I choose for this project was how films make us better people. I chose this people because growing up I loved movies and they made my childhood better. But as I grew up, I started to get into more genres of films, and I wanted to learn more about how these films can have such a huge impact on us. This project allowed me to learn more about something that has been on my mind about it but never took the time to actually find answers.  The purpose of this project was to show people how films are huge part of our lives and how big of an impact they can have on a person and our society. I wanted to show people that films can help them figure out who they want to be or even how to see this world.  The audience I really wanted to target was people around my age group that are still trying to figure out life and themselves. I thought this project could be toward them because it could help them find out who they want to be through these films or even learn to become a better person. The appeal I used is logos because I think showing evidence on how big movies are to us can really let the audience think about it. I decided to write in a persuasive genre because I wanted to persuade the audience in getting into more films so they could see for themselves how important movies can be especially when you feel stuck or want to have a good time. As I started this project it took me a while who I wanted the audience to be or even what should the genre be. At first, I wanted to do a podcast, but I didn’t think I would do well if I had done a podcast. But as time passed, I decided to make a persuasive article to really show people the importance of movies and hope for them to get out there and be a part of the huge community these films have.  I panicked thinking I didn’t pick the right audience or even the right genre, but I think now that I finished it came out pretty decent. Now that I finished the project, I think I did decent since this is my first time doing something like this while I’ve been in school. At times I feel like I could’ve picked a better genre or a different audience, but this is my first time doing something like this so for the next time I do a project like this in school I plan on doing better than this one and find an even better topic to talk about. But I am happy how it turned out I think I talked about a topic not many have ever talked about or even thought about but there was probably a better way I could’ve done it. At times this project was hard because I didn’t how I would get it done but I eventually got it done. I think this project will help me down the road in college when I get a similar project and next time it will be even better.

In Unit 2, I researched how video games can improve your social skills. In that research, I talked about the many connections you can gain through gaming and how those connections can improve your social skills. Throughout my research, I found that many people agree with me. Video games weren’t just used to improve conversation, they were used to even help those who had trouble communicating during a stressful time in their lives. I had watched documentaries, read articles and books, all for the sake of researching this topic. Because of that, I’ve seen a lot of things about gamers using games to cope, or using games as a topic of conversation in order to communicate with others. I learned about gaming social groups that encourage young gamers to communicate with each other too. I came to the conclusion that video games do support people socially, as they give people a reason to communicate and even give them tools for easy communication. My target audience ended up being gamers, since they are the people that will benefit the most from this entertainment. It isn;t like they don’t know that these friend systems exist, but it is more like they take it for granted and don’t really realize just how powerful these tools are, I know I did. Having gamers learn more about how easily they can increase their social skills and friends lists could bring gamers together and make larger communities, at least that is what I am hoping for with this project.

I have always been a gamer. I have always been an introvert. Communicating with people was never my strong suit. Even friends I have now are people who took the initiative to talk to me first. Those friends then introduced me to more people, but the one thing we had in common at the time was that we were all gamers. But my in-person friends aren’t the only friends I have. I have also made several anonymous online friends, which sounds bad out of context but they were just people who are friends on gaming platforms that I contact in-case I want to fight them or need an extra teammate. So the thought came to me. These gaming platforms have built-in friend systems, some of the mobile games I play also have friend systems, plus all of my friends are gamers. These games are helping me make friends, so shouldn’t we all be making friends? It is literally so easy. Then another thought came to my mind, maybe my friends aren’t growing just because of these platforms. It is like I slowly got better at talking to people and connecting with others. Could these games be giving me the opportunity to improve my social skills? And so became the beginning of my research.

My purpose for doing this research and making this project was to spread the word. I wanted to let gamers know that the friend system they so commonly use is actually a great tool that can help them create even more friends in real life. All these chats that you have with players are really beneficial to you and your social skills. Making friends is easy when you have something to easily connect with them. Plus having such easy access can motivate them to try and make more friends. What better way to inform gamers about a simple, easy to access tool than with a simple, easy to access video. The best place for me to put my easy to access video is the most easy to access streaming service around, Youtube. Youtube is on the top 5 list for Gamer Resources. Gamers use Youtube a lot when searching for an answer in their games, so if I put my video on there, they are more likely to come across it. As for what the video itself is gonna be, it is going to be a short and sweet informative video. A short video that can get my point across is perfect for gamers since we switch from video to video a lot.

The genre has to be video, no questions asked. Something a gamer can watch while playing, something gamers don’t have to spend a lot of time on, and something they can still gain information from, these are the types of media gamers are looking for. That is why it has to be a video. A simple informative video is the best way for gamers to take in the information I want to provide them, and the best place for simple informative videos is none other than Youtube. When the video is right there at your fingertips, gamers are more likely to watch it. It just attracts them more knowing it’s something they don’t even have to focus on.

The process of making the video has to start with the script. This simple video is a voice over kind, so I need a script to base the video off of. The script don’t need to be too long or short, as long as it gets the point across it should be fine. I went over my R.A.B. and made a script out of it, taking parts that I want to talk about while removing things that I thought didn’t need to be in the video. From there I recorded the script, and re-recorded, and re-recorded. I’ve re-recorded the script so many times. From there I went into editing the recording, trying to make my voice sound smooth and clear. It didn’t turn out the way I hoped, but it still turned out pretty ok. Once I thought the script recording was okay for use, I started making an outline of the video. Using the script as a basis, I started to draw out what I wanted the video to generally look like in certain areas, and if I couldn’t draw it then I would write down a short description of what should be there. It was more like a storyboard than it was an outline. After that was complete came the hard part, the video editing. Grabbing a filling yet unnoticeable background, grabbing images and clips that I thought would be appropriate for that specific section, it was really tedious. I also had to go through and learn the tools and some tricks so I can get my video looking like the way I had it in my head. At the end of the day, it didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted it, but I think I got the video looking close to what my ideal vision looked like. It was definitely something I could be proud of.

I think the video turned out great. It wasn’t perfect but it was definitely good enough to suit my needs. I got down the general idea of a short, appealing video to attract gamers. If there is anything I wish I could have improved on a little bit more, it is definitely the mic. I didn’t have the best setup to make my voice as clear and smooth as possible, and my audio editing skills are worse than my video editing. It still turned out pretty decent but it is probably the weakest part of my video. This was definitely a difficult project to get done. My biggest problem, which I didn’t realize until the end, was rendering. I have learned that rendering speeds depend on how good your computer is, especially how good your Processor is, but I overestimated my laptop. With multiple crashes and a final render time of 4 hours, I managed to complete my project. So if there is something else I should improve on, it is getting a better laptop. Having something like this as a college project was really fun. This is the most creative a college project has been for me to date, and I really enjoyed working on this project. I really do hope that there will be more projects like this during my time in college.

World Peace

Throughout my Unit 2 project, I researched whether or not there is a possibility of maintaining World Peace across the globe? And from what I have found, turns out that it is possible for our world to have a chance at world peace. But it all starts with us. Whether we like it or not we are the cause of it. We first, need to come to an agreement that World peace is possible. But it provides a lot of support within our community, our city, our country, and our world. Furthermore in my research, I came across multiple explanations on whether World Peace is achievable. All my source entries came to the same conclusion. Which was World Peace can coexist as long as we as human beings can come to agree with each other and come together as a whole. To support one another and help each other. Having countries become allies with one another. While making peace treaties that support each other while having both sides win.

My goal is to educate students from 12 graders to freshmen in college since they are more mature and old enough to handle it. To understand and be curious about the topic that I am trying to present. To make sure they don’t ignore the topic since it is not a laughing matter. That they must take it very seriously since people right now are currently affected by it. How I will target my audience is by introducing a scene from the movie called “Braveheart.” This movie is the key to my presentation. Braveheart gives detail, emotion, action, and suspense. The scenery of the filming locations in Scotland and Ireland is beautiful and breathtaking, the cinematography is spectacular. The movie sets, costumes, and weapons are very well made. From suffering to courage to love is depicted. As we continue, fellow students. I will start off with my presentation by watching “Braveheart,” from the movie we will be watching a specific part of the scene to show you and visually see the lengths to achieve peace.

Click this link right here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIvRkjOd1f8&t=35s and watch it till the very end. Once you have watched the whole thing, let me give you background information about what “Braveheart” is about and why I picked it, and how it connects to my topic overall. On google, it states “Braveheart is about William Wallace a medieval Scottish patriot who is spurred into revolt against the English when the love of his life is slaughtered. Leading his army into battles that become a war, his advance into England threatens King Edward I’s throne before he is captured and executed, but not before becoming a symbol for a free Scotland.” Now for why I picked it and how it connects to the topic. Will let me explain. I picked this movie for the emotion, history, and the impact it has when someone is watching this movie. Especially, watching that specific scene from the movie, from the link that I provided. That scene I provided has a significant connection to my topic. That scene is a speech that is being given by the main character William Wallace (played by Mel Gibson who also directed the movie). In addition, that speech has a lot of depth and emotion about the whole significants of the movie and my topic. Moreover, I wanted to show you how peace can be achieved. Yes, it was violent, but you can see it yourself and feel the connection between the main character and the plot of the movie. You can empathize with everyone else in the movie and the struggle they’re facing just so they can have their freedom. As a result, William Wallace made a huge impact on everyone in the movie and us as the audience. To come to terms with how much we need to fight for our freedom and how far we have come. To figure out what we need to do and to go on the right path to come closer to World Peace.

I became interested in the topic of world peace since not many people ask questions about world peace. This topic became very interesting in doing the research because to me as a person I am a pacifist type of person. But being a pacifist it is also kinda hard to see that war can or can’t be unjustifiable. How I became curious about world peace was watching movies, watching the news, and reading about war and documentaries on the internet. And one day the idea came to me, wondering whether or not there’s a possibility of maintaining World Peace across the globe? That’s why I researched a lot of entry sources explaining the possibility of World Peace. And how World Peace is achievable, but it starts with us. Coming together, and forming organizations that support and help many countries that are struggling with peace.

The purpose of this project is to educate my fellow audience who are in high school going to college. To be able to understand and be curious about it, while living in today’s sociality. Can there be a possibility of maintaining World Peace across the globe? To come to an agreement on whether or not it can be answered? I wanted my audience to be at least 18 years and up since they are more mature and to take it very seriously. To make sure that the audience understands the topic itself, and why it must be taken seriously since it is not a laughing matter. And hopefully, my audience will be able to leave my presentation with curiosity, questions, and understanding. Also, I see my project itself shown in a classroom or in an auditorium since it’s a formal, informative, educational presentation. Furthermore, the appeals that I am currently using are pathos and ethos. Since they provide my project with emotion and credibility.

As for my presentation, I will be using a movie named “Braveheart.” It’s a movie about war, freedom, and peace. But the movie I will be using a specific scene from the movie. The scene itself is 2 minutes and 48 seconds long. Long enough to keep my audience entertained and visible pleasing. This made me realize that my audience will be entertained since my goal is to make it not boring. But something unique and new. But with the movie, I will have to create a short speech or article about why I picked it and how it connects to the topic of World Peace.

The process of making my project the way it is. By using my imagination while being creative at the same time. As well as including a movie that in my opinion best suits fit my audience. Then, finding a movie that connects to my topic while having my one goal in mind. To make sure that my audience doesn’t get bored. Next, I went to make sure that incorporate my topic from Unit 2 and explain why in I picked World Peace as my topic. What didn’t work so well was creating a book since my audience will get bored. Because the whole point of my project is to make sure I did something that was new and unique. Who I turned to for help is my Professor Cole. She was able to clarify in detail what the project needs to be about. While asking my sister to be my audience and tested out on her whether or not she was entertained by it and see if she got bored at any moment. When I did panic was whether or not the movie can connect with my audience and with my topic overall. What I did was watch the scene that I picked and test it out with my sister and friends, and to see whether or not they liked it and ask for their honest feedback.

I think that it turned out unique as I wanted it to be. While making sure that my audience doesn’t get bored throughout the whole presentation. I saw my appeals evolve as beautiful as the sunset. It came together perfectly in my honest opinion. The movie and the scene itself worked like a charm. It was short, sweet, and straight to the point. If I had the time, what I would have done differently is to actually present it to my class. To see their honest reactions and feedback. To understand what different approaches I could have taken to my project. Maybe include the audience more than just make them watch my presentation, but incorporate them somehow. To have my audience be part of the presentation, instead of just being an audience. What I am happy about is the movie that I picked. And if you haven’t watched Braveheart, please do so and tell me what you think of the movie. The project itself was both easy and hard. The hardest part was finding a genre that best presents my project, and to make sure that my audience doesn’t get bored so easily. How I feel having to do something like this as a college project was fun and very creative. It gets the student itself thinking while forming creativity in it. It was an amazing experience since it was something new. While I do see myself using this in the future to approach audience’s to my project that goes with my career. Overall, this was an incredible experience and to be able to see other people approach their projects differently is mindblowing. Imagination and creativity together work alongside each other.
