Week 8: March 21 – 25

I have moved the due date for the final draft of your RAB to Wednesday, March 30th.

March 21st

HW due Friday, March 25th

WRITE: Final Source entry.  Title it “Third Source Entry” under “Discussions/Unit 2.”

March 23rd

HW due Sunday, March 27th

WRITE: Conclusion (at least 400 words). Title it “Conclusion” under “Discussions/Unit 2.”

For your conclusion:

  • You will summarize what you found in your research
  • You will tell readers what surprised you, or how your understanding of your question deepened or changed. (Spoiler: if the answer is “not at all”, you did not do enough research.)
  • You will explain why what you learned is important
  • You will explain who you think needs to know about it and why (Another spoiler: be specific!  The answer can not be “everyone.”  That is too big of an audience.  Narrow it down to who needs to hear about it first!)

HW due Wednesday, March 30th (I’m showing you this now so you can plan accordingly.  I’ll restate this for next week’s assignment).

WRITE: Compile your Reflective Annotated Bibliography, put it together into a document. Post the final draft of your RAB under “Discussions/Unit 2” by Wednesday, March 30th.  Title it “Final draft RAB.”  Additionally, you will need to submit a hard copy to me in class on March 30th.  You can print out your paper in the library.

  • Look over your peers’ RAB’s as well as the example I provided. What are you missing? What could you add to make this more cohesive as a document? Remember, even though you’ve been putting the ingredients together a little at a time, you need to put everything together as one document so we have everything in one place!
  • WRITE: Along with your RAB rough draft, you will post a quick note at the end addressing the following:

This is how I feel about the project so far: how I think it’s going, what problems I’m having, what I think is working, and what I think I need help with, what I’m proud of, etc.

Week 7: March 14 -18

March 14

HW due Thursday, March 17th, but read before class on Wednesday, 3/16 because I’d like us to have a discussion about Dirk’s article.

READ AND ANNOTATE: “Navigating Genres” by Kerry Dirk

WRITE: Write a blog post of at least 300 words and answer the following questions.   Post under “Discussions/Unit 2” and title it “Navigating Genres”.

  • What are some genres that you feel you know well? How did you learn them? What are their common rhetorical features?
  • What genres do you think might give you good information for Unit 2? What is it in particular about those genres that make them good potential sources for your topic?

GATHER: More sources!

March 16

HW due Monday, March 21st

READ AND ANNOTATE: Graff & Birkenstein, “Chapter 3: As He Himself Puts It – The Art of Quoting”.  Post under “Discussions/Unit 2” and title it “The Art of Quoting”.  We’ll talk about this article in class on Monday, 3/21.

WRITE:  Your second “Source Entry” Draft. Post on website. Make sure you have at least one “quote sandwich” in there. Use Graff & Birkenstein to help you set it up: remember to introduce, explain and analyze your quote (OR QUOTES)!  Post under “Discussions/Unit 2” and title it “Second Source Entry”.
