Chen, Michelle. “Journalism Is Dangerous Work.” The Nation, 15 Jan. 2019, https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/journalism-press-freedom-khashoggi/.

There isn’t a day that goes by that nothing happens, something bad or good always occurs. Journalists make the world go around without them. We would know nothing about what’s truly going on around the globe. They are there to inform us on their raw real opinions. They don’t sugar coat anything and tell us how it is that’s what makes Journalists very important, they are a necessity. But something about telling the truth is dangerous nowadays. Journalism has become one of the most dangerous jobs to have. They are being killed for simply speaking the truth. The article “Journalism Is Dangerous Work: At home and aboard, the press is becoming a target of states and individuals.” Talks about Journalists nowadays going through many hazards such as relentless harassment, assasination, and mass arrests. It talks about Mr. Trump and his hatred and bitter attitude for the press and how it encourages violence for Journalists at home or abroad. “Trump’s hatred for the media was recently amplified by one of his many recent foreign-policy messes, with his pronounced shrug at the savage murger of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi”.

Jamal Khashoggi was a Journalist that faced political persecution for his work he was murdered and dismembered he was killed in a “rouge operation” by Turkish agents. This was all because he was speaking out against the Saudi government as a contributing columnist for many media outlets. May Jamal Khashoggi get justice, he was a great Journalist, may he rest in peace. Trump having this open opinion about hating the press puts many innocent lives at risk when all they are trying to do is report the dangers of what’s going on around so you can stay at home, get informed on what’s happening and remain safe. There have been many assassinations with no justice that needs to change. Trump’s response on Jamal Khasoggis murder putting it a side shows that he has no sympathy nor care he must hold Saudis accountable. Without the President doing that he is promoting uncalled for violence for Journalists trying to do their work. They are incredible and brave. They don’t deserve such hatred but the opposite, respect for all the hard work they do for us. Remember they have families too, they are human beings just reporting the dangers for us. Why all this hatred? We should be thanking them. I hope all fallen Journalists get justice one day.

Unit 2 Draft Introduction

Well my question is why do journalists continue to put themselves in dangerous situations knowing that they could get killed. You may ask why am I interested in this topic. Well, I grew up watching journalists exploring forbidden areas, areas that were not publicly accessible. It was so exciting watching their videos or news broadcasts. I thought it was the ideal job for me exploring all types of countries and just talking about real life situations and putting my personal opinion on it and hearing others opinions. It gave a more realistic view on topics than fake exaggerated news. Finally something raw with no holding back. But unfortunately I heard that journalists were being killed and it scared me away from wanting to be a journalist but I still wondered why these people risked their lives. Id see these journalists still speak their opinions spike the dead threats or mean comments they stand there like troopers continuing their speeches and opinions about what’s going on in that exact moment they are unapologetic and do not hold back.

Being Journalist is now a very very dangerous job. They fully have my respect for everything, especially now that a war is going on and the pandemic that must’ve been so hard leaving their families at home to get what’s really going on out.I expect to find many articles about first person view biographies about these journalists lifes and their point of views on everything they way they think. I also think I’ll find documentaries and more articles about the deaths of journalists and maybe people telling their stories of bad experiences or maybe even positive experiences. I’d always watch documentaries or news broadcasts about journalists getting treated poorly or something going wrong with them. If I find information going against what I intended to find, I’d simply keep writing and keep looking for information and not lose hope.

I know I’m going to find something that will go against my research but I won’t throw this topic away. I’ll just continue to dig deeper into my research and learn more and hear other opinions and other stories etc. Who knows, I’ll probably find more questions to ask about besides my questions or I’ll even find out more information that digs deeper into my topic. I look forward to finding my answer to my question but I also look forward to learning and discovering more.
