Chen, Michelle. “Journalism Is Dangerous Work.” The Nation, 15 Jan. 2019, https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/journalism-press-freedom-khashoggi/.
There isn’t a day that goes by that nothing happens, something bad or good always occurs. Journalists make the world go around without them. We would know nothing about what’s truly going on around the globe. They are there to inform us on their raw real opinions. They don’t sugar coat anything and tell us how it is that’s what makes Journalists very important, they are a necessity. But something about telling the truth is dangerous nowadays. Journalism has become one of the most dangerous jobs to have. They are being killed for simply speaking the truth. The article “Journalism Is Dangerous Work: At home and aboard, the press is becoming a target of states and individuals.” Talks about Journalists nowadays going through many hazards such as relentless harassment, assasination, and mass arrests. It talks about Mr. Trump and his hatred and bitter attitude for the press and how it encourages violence for Journalists at home or abroad. “Trump’s hatred for the media was recently amplified by one of his many recent foreign-policy messes, with his pronounced shrug at the savage murger of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi”.
Jamal Khashoggi was a Journalist that faced political persecution for his work he was murdered and dismembered he was killed in a “rouge operation” by Turkish agents. This was all because he was speaking out against the Saudi government as a contributing columnist for many media outlets. May Jamal Khashoggi get justice, he was a great Journalist, may he rest in peace. Trump having this open opinion about hating the press puts many innocent lives at risk when all they are trying to do is report the dangers of what’s going on around so you can stay at home, get informed on what’s happening and remain safe. There have been many assassinations with no justice that needs to change. Trump’s response on Jamal Khasoggis murder putting it a side shows that he has no sympathy nor care he must hold Saudis accountable. Without the President doing that he is promoting uncalled for violence for Journalists trying to do their work. They are incredible and brave. They don’t deserve such hatred but the opposite, respect for all the hard work they do for us. Remember they have families too, they are human beings just reporting the dangers for us. Why all this hatred? We should be thanking them. I hope all fallen Journalists get justice one day.
