In the essay ” A Talk to Teachers” written by James Balwin, He states “American history is longer, larger, more various, more beautiful and more terrible than anything anyone has ever said about it, so is the world larger, more daring, more beautiful and more terrible, but principally larger – and that it belongs to him. I would teach him that he doesn’t have to be bound by the expediencies of any given administration, any given policy, any given morality; that he has the right and the necessity to examine everything.”  What I think James Baldwin is trying to say here is that American history has parts of it that is very beautiful and incredible to say the least, but he is also saying that American history has parts where its cruel and terrible than anything you can think of.  He also says the world is larger what I think he is trying to say is that just like American history the world is more beautiful but more terrifying. The world will always have terrible and amazing parts to it.  Somethings I wish I was taught in school is probably how to do your taxes or even how taxes work, maybe even focus a bit on teenager’s mental health especially during the time we are living in now, how to start your own business.  As a kid I wanted to learn these things because I know they are huge part of growing up and I’d rather start getting the idea of them before I have to deal with them. Mental Health has been such a huge problem since the pandemic the kids growing up now need to learn about it more, so they know what they will be going through later on in life. These topics need be taught in school as soon as possible.
