This is great! The only little shifting I would say needs to get done is possibly shifting your introduction. Currently, it is very direct and expresses very specific information. You may want to shift those ideas to body paragraphs and just generally bring up that word and/or community in the last half of your intro.

Great work here. However, it seems you have two papers running here between section 1 and 2 and 3. Section 1 seems non-personal and just focuses upon the word and Section 2 and 3 seem as if you are starting a personal narrative about the word. Is it possible to better blend the two? For example, possibly defining the word as you came to know it growing up and why it was important to you?

    INTRODUCTION

Palmira is a town in Colombia that my mother was born and raised in. She grew up climbing trees and swimming in the rivers of Palmira. Life in Colombia is seeing fruits on trees in your backyard and waking up to vendors yelling “Se vende arepas de mais!! arepas de choclo”. A place where it’s normal to drink coffee 5 times a day. Palmira is a small town in Cali Colombia, Cali is known as “La capital de la salsa” which translates to the salsa capital. My mother grew up with my grandparents listening to salsa and dancing it throughout her whole childhood and it was how they celebrated important events, salsa is what brought people together especially family. I grew up seeing my mother dance salsa and listen to the music every other day and I found myself at age 12 learning how to dance, my mother would teach me. I eventually learned and became passionate about it and it is now something that has become a part of who I am.
