During the first ten minutes of class, write your penultimate summary from Miller’s Digital Storytelling, Chapter 24, “Working as a Digital Storyteller.” What were some of the important takeaways from this chapter? What advice might apply more broadly to PTW careers in general? We will discuss these after you have a chance to write and post your own observations based on the reading.

Re: Chapter 24 summary
Miller’s chapter 24, “Working as a Digital Storyteller” was a very different look into digital storytelling. For majority of the book we were able to witness what digital stories encompass, both in practice and in theory. This chapter gave us a look at what exactly digital storytellers must be able to do, the daily life of a digital storyteller, ways to get into the field, and what legal situations might arise when working in the field. The chapter helped to clarify exactly what digital storytellers do; they must be able to utilize digital technologies, tell a story, be seen as being entertainers, and engage users in an interactive experience. Digital storytellers are not always cookie cutter, college trained professionals; many of them come from various backgrounds but have the abilities listed above. Many digital storytellers make their way into the field by internships which allows them to work their way up and grow as they learn. Another key concept found in the chapter I believe was Miller’s mentioning of the people connection. Not only is it important to create stories that connect to people but digital storytellers must be able to themselves connect to other. Be able to sell their ideas and communicate to others the importance of what they are doing and why they are doing it. I believe these are also important aspects in the Technical writing field due to the fact that directly relate to what the field requires. Being an expert communicator, being able to narrate a story that engages, and being able to understand an audience and the intended purpose of a story or product are not only characteristics that are demanded of digital storytellers but also technical writers

SUBJECT: CH 24
This chapter takes an entirely different approach to digital storytelling because rather than visit the logistics of the stories, mediums or audience it focuses on the storyteller themselves, the author. In this chapter Miller takes note of all the things a story teller should be able to do to see success in the practice. Her main facets are, ability to engage an audience, use several technologies to your benefit to make your story as encompassing or lively as possible. Being familiar with these new technologies, who uses them and what they can do is crucial in creating content that will capture an audience. The digital story telling field is one that is rapidly growing and becoming a large focus for companies that want to market their stories to a wider audience.
As a potential DST in this field I feel I can apply millers principals to most of my work, the main being knowing the platform and who uses it.

Re: Chapter 24 Summary
In Miller’s chapter 24 was an incredibly insightful look at being a digital storyteller in a new digital age and space. The chapter gave us a unique look at digital storytelling which is one that was far beyond the what we have been reading thus far. The chapter also discussed the different elements of digital storytelling and how it all plays a role in developing a narrative. It also mentions the types of skills a digital writer will need moving forward in life. A lot of digital storytellers become digital storytellers by accident, which goes to show you that many actually find a career in which they studied for. Miller found an interesting way to merge what happens in real life to what reflect the teachings in the chapter.
