My Major
Hi, my name is Rahat Ahmed, and I am here to earn my degree in Hospitality Management from City Tech. I personally feel that Hospitality Management is best suited for me because ever since I was a kid, I would tell my parents that I wanted to own a restaurant of my own someday. My second reason being is that if I have my own business then I am going to be my own boss where I dictate terms. I am drawn to this field for a number of reasons. I honestly believe Hospitality Management is really for me because I really have a passion for the business and I am really keen to explore it more. In this essay I will elaborate on my interest in Hospitality Management and why I want to be a success someday in the near future. In this writing I will provide a brief background of my major and how I plan on exceeding my expectation that I have for myself. The requirement of major is going to be tough but I am ready for any obstacle that comes my way.
Hospitality Management is the study of the hospitality industry. The main focus of my major is entirely based on hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, amusement parks, destination marketing organization, convention centers and country clubs. In other words my degree is mainly about learning how to manage big companies and organizations. For example if you walk into a five star hotel, you would obviously expect good personnel and management where they fulfill your desired needs as a customer. In my major I will be learning more on how to handle situations where there might be some confusion between the customer and our employee’s. If I am able to graduate with my major in Hospitality Management then I will be the most ecstatic person in the world because with that degree I can get a job as a hotel manager of big companies and make a name for myself. There’s no other better place for me to start thinking seriously about my major then City Tech. Me being a student here at City Tech makes everything easier because I am provided with great professors who are always looking to help out. My degree has a lot of requirements such as the number of different courses that I have to take in order get my degree. According to the “City Tech college Catalog P.108” I need a total of sixty credits to graduate with my degree. “Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry Arts and Dining Room Operations are the three most important courses that I must complete for my major. Each of these three courses will show me everything there is for me to know in order for me exceed in my major. Brey, T. Eric tells me that having a degree in Management is very handy(Brey 79-102) My major “Hospitality management” is a very good degree to have under your belt because more than 80% of Hospitality Management graduates enter employment within six months of graduation. Popular areas of work include marketing, PR and sales, business management and secretarial roles. According to my research just over 4% of hospitality related function, or broaden their opportunities and moved into other career paths. This gives an indication on how important my degree is to me. Somewhere deep in my heart I know for a fact that this is the career path I want succeed in and make a name for myself.
Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to have a restaurant of my own. I used to tell my parents that someday I am going to be very successful in life, where I won’t ever have to struggle. Every morning that I walk into City Tech, I enter with a goal in my mind, a goal to get my education that’s going to benefit me in the long run. I have done some very important research on the salary of a Hotel manager and the minimum amount is $82,510 per year. This itself is a motivation to work even harder to accomplish my goals and strive for more. I don’t want to settle for less when I know I have the ability to reach greater heights and I am certainly up for the challenge that City Tech has to offer. When you have the passion for something, all you have to do is apply yourself to it and I certainly am, I am very much committed to getting my degree in Hospitality Management. According to the “Occupational Outlook Handbook” management occupations in general pays up to $93,910 per year. In life everyone wants to make money in order to live a life that they want rather than settling down for something average. I honestly believe ,I have the potential to accomplish something big in life and I wont give up until I reach the very top. I try to motivate myself as much as I can and seeing how hard my parents works makes me the most determined student in the world. I am waiting on the day when I can finally tell my dad to retire and just enjoy the rest of his life because my dad deserves the best.
In order to succeed in life you need to be your own boss where you dictate terms. Education is the key to success in life because education is something no one can take away from you. You need to have a clear mind on what you really want to do with your life and stick to that plan regardless of how hard it may seem at times. I had plans of coming to college to get a degree in hospitality management since I was a freshman in high school. I would irritate my teachers with questions and they would always help me out because they realized how determined I was about my education. Every year on Career day when guest speakers would come to my high school and talk about their field of work, I would pay very close attention because I knew that in order to succeed in life you need to make a few sacrifices. When I graduated from high school I honestly felt I was one step closer to achieving my dream. I knew the road would be tough but “when the road gets tough the tough gets going”. So far City Tech has been great because all of my professors are really good at their job and they even go beyond to making sure that I am learning the right material that I need to know. I have a few goals in life and I couldn’t have been in a better place then City Tech to achieve it all. I want to make sure that when I am married someday and hopefully have kids that I wont have to struggle financially. Education is priceless and I am going to make sure that I leave a legacy here at City Tech. I want to be remembered for my hardworking ethics and hopefully i can inspire a few people along the road.
