    Summary on Vision
Vision is the dominant sense which takes up half of our brain to use. Our use of vision is a lot more complex then just taking a video. We record the photons of light that hits our eye, turn it into electrical code where it is brought to the very far back of the head and broken down into parts where specific parts of the brain that reads different patterns, shapes, movement and many other things. Then it moves further into the brain where it is broken down in an even more complex way then reconstructed with the original information and the brains input of what is missing, because we have many variables to considered when the brain is calculating what it sees. Some variables are the fact that we have two eyes so the brain keeps us from seeing double by putting that into its calculation factor. We also have a blind spot right in the center of the two eyes so the brain uses its imagination to fill in that little missing spot. Itā€™s a kind of scary thing that we learn because there might be something we cant see because our brain is telling us not to see it.

    Summary on music
There is a saying that people say and that is music brings the life out of someone. After all the things I have learned I could say that a certain type of song can bring back good or bad experiences based on the mood of the song or if you were listening to that song while that past experience was happening. So it doesnā€™t really bring the life out of you it brings back past experienceā€™s and awakens the brain, basically like a car giving another car a jump. Learning music can help give a person an education boost in there general education, preferably for people in a large classroom since music education can help a person identify sounds in specific places.

    Music:
So I have just read a chapter called ” Music ” from John Medina’s ” Brian Rules” . I loved this chapter because people always seems to tell me that I am too obsessed with music and it’s not good for me. But in this John Medina explains that music can be good and even beneficial for our brain. John Medina starts this chapter by telling us the story of Henry Dryer a 92 year old man. In his youth he used to be outgoing, he loved to listen to music and dance. But after he got diagnosed with Dementia he totally changed . He just sits on his wheel chair in an empty room faced down all day .It’s almost like he is not alive. A group of researcher came in and gave him an iPod , filled with hundreds of songs. He started listening and trying sing along by making different kind of noises. The music started curing him!
Our scientists still doesn’t how to define music. Different people’s brains have different effect on music. But scientists think that we are born musical. That’s why babies love it when their parents sing to them or give them a musical speech.
There is about hundreds of benefit we can have by listening or learning how to play music. It has been scientifically proven that listening to music can increase our IQ. People who listens to Mozart’s music seems to do well in their math quiz. You aren’t sold already? Well there is more! Music can improve one’s language skill and vocabulary. Musicians are also better listener. In the end John Medina tries to tell us that as we can have so many benefit from music ,so we should make a good use out of it. John Medina wants every school to have a mandatory music class. This class should be like every other class such as: Math, English. By doing that we can raise a better generation of smart children!

    Vision:

So I have just read a chapter called, ā€œVisionā€ from John Medinaā€™s ā€œ Brain Rulesā€. Hereā€™s the chapter summary:
According to John Medina, we do not see with our eyes. We see with our brains. We can prove it with the help of Wine Snobs. A specific vocabulary exists for white wines and a specific vocabulary for red wines, and the two are never supposed to cross for some unknown reason. A group of scientists did a research on this so called Wine experts. The scientists put some red dye on white wine and gave to the Wine tasters .When the wine tasters encountered the altered whites, every one of them used the vocabulary for the red wine. The visual inputs seemed to trump their other highly trained senses.
Our sense of vision is not perfect. In fact itā€™s pretty faulty. Despite that a lot us trust our visions too much. Many even compares them with camera. But itā€™s not like that at all. We canā€™t trust our vision too much because our eyes have blind spots, and a lot of the time what we see are like day dream/hallucination. Our brain tries to make a sense out of what its getting but it doesnā€™t mean that brains interpretation is correct.
Vision always tries to dominate all the other senses. Vision can trump our smell, taste, and even touch. It can even take over half of our brain resources if it feels necessary.
In the end John Medina explains that as our brain loves vision very much, So itā€™s really beneficial for us to make a good use out of it. If you want your presentation to be memorable to your audience then you might want to use a lot of bright and colorful pictures on it. Our vision really likes it and it would be very memorable for our brain.

    “Vision” Summary
Vision is an important sense because it trumps all other senses. According to Medina ” the process is extremely complex, seldom, provides…. And is not 100 percent accurate”. Most people really rely on their vision but vision is not 100 percent accurate. People might see an event differently than it really is because people see what their brain want them to see. Some people think that human brain works like a camera but it’s not true. Human brain is more complex and does some complex process. Both of our eyes works together to give us more accurate information. Between our eyes we have a blind spot which our eyes canā€™t see but in order to make sense of the all scene our brain fills up the blind spot by using its imagination. During the complex process our brain might lose some memory and it makes up a random memory which is why we can’t trust our vision entirely.
    “Music” Summary
Medina starts the chapter music by telling the audience about Henry Dryer, and how he’s obsessed with music. Music helps human light up their brain. Not everyone has the same meaning for music and to some music is so important but others it’s just a noise of instruments and sounds. A research has been conducted and it concluded that music can have positive effect on human brain too. According to Medina ā€œmusic, ability to affect oneā€™s mood and subsequent behavior is a common theme in literatureā€. Music changes human mood in an instant. I agree with Medina because music really does have an effect on brain. When I listen to music my mood changes depends on the kind of song Iā€™m listening to, if a song is sad I start feel little melancholy. Music can also improve a personā€™s reading, and writing skills.

On Brain Rules chapter of vision shows that vision is the most dominant sense. Most of the objects or items we see are from our brains and whatever we see could not be accurate. Vision is perceived to work like a camera, but canā€™t be relied on. We also have a blind-spot precisely in the middle of both our eyes so the brain can create its own thoughts to occupy any missing spots. On the other chapter of Music, this demonstrates that formal music training surpass knowledgeable abilities in a couple of cognitive domains. Music helps spatiotemporal skills, vocabulary, choosing sound in loud area, helps function memory and sensory-motor skills. Formal music training also helps with emotional information in communication. Music also had the ability to affect peopleā€™s mood as well as upcoming behavior.

  5. Shamani Patton

The vision chapter informs us that we see with our brains, they did a study with 54 wine aficionados who have a special interest in how the describe wine, they said things like “Aggressive complexity, with just a subtle hint of shyness”. They take words like this serious. They have words to describe Red wines and words to describe White wine, and they never cross. Researchers add odorless, colorless dye into the white wine and ask the wine aficionados to describe the taste and they use words that they would describe the Red wine. Their noses would be fooled, their visual inputs overrode their highest trained senses. Your vision doesn’t just assist in the perception of the world, it dominates the perception of our world. The brain interpolates the information coming from both eyes. Just to make things more complicated, each eye has it’s own visual field, and they project upside down and backwards. Sometimes when I’m eating something but I’m looking at a certain food that I’m not eating at the same time, I can taste the food that I’m not eating. So we learn and remember better through pictures, not through written or spoken words.
Music is something that can make us better at doing things, it stimulates our mind and better us. Older people in nursing homes feel left out and abandoned, but music revived them and they started to feel better and apart of society. As the old guy listened to the music, he said “It gives me the feeling of love. Romance! I figure right now the world needs to come into music”. Although Music research is complicated starting with the fact that not everyone agrees what music is, or why it exists. Some scientist think we are born musical. You can certainly watch babies respond to music, as they sway and respond with gleeful dances. Music has been a part of the cultural expression of virtually every culture ever studied. Music has become a part of living a healthy life, I can say that music has always made me feel positive and help me look at life with different perspectives. Music training improves math scores, improves reading ability, and improves IQ as well as being useful for academic uses. Musicians are not only talented with making art but they also scorer better than non musicians on test. Formal musical training improves intellectual skills in several cognitive domains. It also boost spatiotemporal skills, vocabulary, picking out sounds in a noisy environment, working, memory, and sensory-motor skills.

    Vision

In this chapter called “Vision” Dr. John Medina state that “we as humans donā€™t see with our eyes.We see with our brain. This particular chapter really had me thinking because after reading it, I was left with a lot of questions to ask. For one I always thought that the reason why we have our eyes is so that we can see visual things through it. According to Dr. John Medina “Visual processing doesn’t just assist in the perception of our world. It dominates the perception of our world. Vision trumps all other senses. We as human are incredible at remembering pictures. We might not be as strong when it comes to remembering information but our vision is good enough remember pictures. I also think that vision Is my personal strongest sense simply because I have really good visual memory.

    Music

In this chapter called “Music” Dr. John Medina state that “Music light up the human brain”. I believe music can instantly change a persons mood from good to bad in a blink of an eye. Music helps the human brain clear itself and go into a zone where everything seems at rest. I personally can’t live without music because. music has become a part of me ever since I was a kid. The only thing in the world that can cheer me up whenever I am down is simply music. Music can’t be universally defined because everyone has their own personal opinions on it. According to Dr. John Medina music improves our learning ability because.

    Vision:

In the ninth chapter of John Medinaā€™s ā€œBrain Rulesā€, he explains the importance and hidden truths about vision and how it all connects to our brain. You see, what we perceive with own two eyes may not be all too accurate to what we might believe. The brain, in a sense, studies the environment and is then projected through our eyes. John Medina once stated, ā€œThe visual analysis we do has many steps. The retina assembles photons into movie-like stream: some areas registering motion, others registering color, etc. Finally, we recombine that information so that we can seeā€ (Medina,197). Meaning, there is a complicated process about how we use vision within our everyday lives.

    Music:
Chapter ten of John Medinaā€™s ā€œBrain Rulesā€ talks all about music and its effects on the human mind and even changes our current behavior. Music is powerful in many ways such as shifting a personā€™s mood and feeling entirely. John Medina explains, ā€œFormal musical training improves intellectual skills in several cognitive domains. Music boosts spatiotemporal skills, vocabulary picking out sounds in a noisy environment, working memory, and sensory motor skillsā€ (Medina,222). In other words, Music is more than just an object of our amusement but can help boost our intelligence in other ways such as more effective studying. Music is also a great stress reliever due to the fact that it calms the mind and even motivates us to do our very best in everything we do.

Brian Rules #9 ā€œVision Trumps all Other Senseā€ John medina states we do not see with our eyes. We actually see with our brains. What we don’t know is what we see is only what are brains are letting us see. From the day a human is born vision is a very important thing.Vision is the dominant sense of them all. Vision has the ability to do way more. The brain is capable to remember the best pictures just by seeing them, not through writing or hearing words being told. Analysing something takes a lot of steps. First the retina assembles photons into movie-like streams of information. Then the visual cortex processes these streams. Finally then there is a reconnection of the information that enables us to see what we really see.
Brain Rule #10 ā€œ Study or Listen to Boost Cognitionā€ Music is a alarm of happiness to humans. According the experiment Henry dryer was a part of. Henry was given a ipod full of music . As soon as he heard the first song start his eyes grew wide, his face lights up. The music brought so much joy to his day. It made him sway, smile, and sing. Music training is needed, it is also important becuaes it improves your skills. Music training improves your math scores, reading ability ,and it improves your IQ. Music also changes your mood. Music lessons improves a human social skills.

In the ninth chapter of John Medinaā€™s ā€œBrain Rulesā€, he explains the importance of Vision. Out of all our senses, Vision is out most dominate sense and takes majority of our brains resources. Even though our sense of visions is most important to out daily lives, Medina stats that we don’t see with our eyes but with out brains. We actually experience our visual environment as a fully analyzed opinion about what the brain thinks is out there. Therefore, we can visually see something but however our brains can shape and create a totally new image of what it think it see’s and what it knows. What we see is only what our brain tells us we see. For example, ever see a little kid scared of the dark. Wondering why he/she is. Its because even though he/she imagines something that is not truly he/shes brain tells what they see. And finally he states that we learn and remember best through pictures, not through written or spoken words. Ever wonder why you enjoy power point presentations more rather then your normal lecture classes? We pay lots of attention to color. We pay lots attention to orientation. We pay lots of attention to size and objects in motion. I think every sense is different depending on the person, because my strongest sense is vision, i rely on it more rather than my others. Vision plays a strong roll in humans lives and the development of memory.

Chapter ten of John Medinaā€™s ā€œBrain Rulesā€ talks all about music and its effects on the human mind and how it changes our current behavior. Some scientists think we are born musical. Most people will use music just for a source of relaxation or just for enjoyment but not knowing it also can be used at a way to improve learning skills. Music training improves math scores. It improves language skills. Studies shows that children that were given twice-weekly music lessons for school a year, using ” a music curriculum designed to teach prereading and writing . The children’s neuroarchitecture changed in a way that boosts both motor skills and auditory skills and direct improvements in language processing. Music lessons improve social skills, makes kids more empathetic, and changes your mood.

The vision chapter of brain rules by John Medina talks about how, ā€œeyes/vision is not a camera but the brain actually allows the field of vision to exist. ā€œVision trumps touch, not just smell and taste.ā€ There was a scenario used that referred to a amputee who did a test that tricked his vision and made a limb almost like a video game but tricks the mind into thinking that his limb is still intact (arm).
Also, the Music chapter of Brain Rules by John Medina talks about how music affects the brain greatly. Music is a great stress relief and it can also help in the process of making you smarter. Music, ā€œTickles at least some of the 6 sensitive spots of our mental faculties.ā€ according to Harvard professor Steven Pinker. The chapter also states that musicians are better listeners. This saying deals with the senses ex. if you could predict the change in pattern of music.

  11. MarcG

John Medina talks about vision, saying what we see is not 100 percent accurate and we only see what our brain is allowing us to see and our eyes is not a camera. Vision is the most important senses we have . we remember better through what we see not by what is written or said.

John Medina talks about Music, saying most of us do not known the impact music has on us because we often use it for either relaxation or entertainment without acknowledging it can also be use as a learning tool. Musician are proven to have better math scores , more intellectual .They can pick a distinguish sounds from a crowded place

  12. sher syed

In chapter ā€œVisionā€ John medina explained that what we see is what our brain want us to see. Its not eyes that we see from its actually brain that create image for us and make us believe that its real. Every personā€™s vision doesnā€™t catch same things in same event comparing to other people. Our brain is really complex that its really hard to understand how it process. There is a blind spot for every person but you cant notice it because our brain fill that spot to make us believe that we donā€™t have blind spot.

In chapter ā€œMusicā€ John Medina explained that music lighten up personā€™s brain. Every person have different meaning for different songs. Some songs remind them about their bad past and for other people it reminds them of good memories. Every song make different affect on personā€™s brain. Some people listen to songs that relax them but that same song can make other person sad.

  13. Claribel

In the ā€œVisionā€ chapter, John Medina speaks about vision and how it is the most dominant sense. It takes up half of our brainā€™s resources. Not all of what we see is entirely accurate. There is a process that our brain goes through just so we can see something. According to Medina if we hear a piece of information we remember 10% of the information but if we see a picture along with it we remember 65% of it.

  14. Emmanuel.C

John Medina, a name you have no doubt heard about before, or you will hear about if you’re reading this passage right now. His famous and well deserved recognition of being a contribution to our vast knowledge is titled “Brain Rules”. In today’s chapters, Medina talks about both vision and music. The main thing Medina wants us to keep in mind in terms of vision is that vision triumphs over all other senses. Vision is our most dominant sense and takes up half our brains resources. What we are seeing right now is only what our brain is perceiving for us, it is not 100% accurate. We learn and remember the absolute best through pictures and written words. As for music, Medina says “study or listen to boost cognition”. Medina stats that music can help improve one’s intellectual skills, vocabulary, picking out sounds in noisy environments and other related subjects. He also states that music training also aids social interaction. Medina wants us to understand that music effects how we humans react and perceive things.

  15. PrinceM

In John Medina’s chapters “Vision” and “Music”, he outlines the effects that what we physically see has on our brains, and the effects music has, respectively. In the “Vision” chapter, he explains that vision is the number one sense. It stores information much more efficiently than our other senses, which is why our brains tend to depend on vision the most to gather information about the environment, potential threats, potential mates, and potential food. In Music, he explains the different subconscious effects different types of music or different notes have on the brain.

  16. younisa97

    Vision:

In this chapter of “Brain Rules”, John Medina talks about how vision is the most dominant sense. Vision takes up half of our brain’s resources. What we see is not what is visually there, but it is what the brain wants us to see, almost like we are hallucinating. Vision is our strongest sense, we are born with preloaded visual software when we were born. It is also the best way to learn. We learn a lot more visually through pictures or a movie, than we do from written or oral. One picture really does speak more than a thousand words. Proof that our brain is loaded with visual images, is our dreams, which are hallucinations. They are loaded from the brain to make us see things that are not there. Our visual sense is like a stream of information, which we can load through rememberance and thought. We do not really see with our eyes. We see through our eyes, but we see from our brain.

    Music:

Music plays with our emotions. It can make you feel sad, happy, mad, hype, even sleepy. It also has the ability to change your mood. We learn through emotions, so it is no surprise that music boosts our learning. Music can boost math grades, language skills, listening skills, social skills and so on. It provides us with a sense of comfort almost. Music gives people that extra boost to our desires to do something, it is moving.
