Gordon Parks one of the most important african american photographers, that through his work showed and fought for civil rights, poverty, race, religions and urban life. He was born in fort Kansas, November 30th of  1912 . Being the first african american in to be able to work with the big companies, opened many doors to others that might not be able to succeed, because of their race or religion. Being an african american in the USA back in the 1940s to the 1970s , reveals all kinds of important aspects of the african americans communities and the most oppressed people back in that time. The most characteristic of his works are black and white, representing values and compositions to transmit the feeling of nostalgia, since we don’t see colors we tend to see more how is composed and the expression in the photo, what transmit the mystery of the picture is the effect of just seeing black and white shapes. Sometimes our circumstances made us strong and capable to fight back. just like gordon parks did, his motivations to take the best value of the photo was to reflect his surroundings, all his works represent poverty and segregation showing us a cruel reality that affected and keep affecting  certain groups of people, even if the society is changing, we still have the dark pass that keeps holding many to the poverty and discrimination. Throughout this project I learn to appreciate more the momentum of the pictures. What I learn from Gordon’s works is to see the values of the shapes and how they create the effect of nostalgia in this case on my portrait, the magic of the black and white photos is that you don’t focus only in the colors if not in the sense and what transmit at the moment it was taken.
