Synopsis

I first created a word list for power and fragility. Then I choose the best 6 I can make in each category for thumbnail sketches. For refinement, I chose cracks, soft, radiance, and rays. I then finalized the 4 in a bristol pad.

I chose radiance because of its radius effect ability. The rings in radiance start out small and become bigger when extended. A bomb’s effect is a good example of radiance.

I chose rays because of energy beam/sunrays. The rays are better highlighted by a thick to thin stroke, achieved by drawing two lines and filling in between to create a wedge.

I chose cracks because it means that an object can’t hold against pressure, meaning it’s not in perfect condition anymore. I started with a diagonal zigzag with a thick stroke. When the cracks branch out, the stokes become thinner.

I chose soft because it can easily break. I wanted to create the illusion of objects being in the front and back. A thick stroke highlights the object being in the front while a thinner stroke highlights the object being in the back. The clouds were made from part or half circles.

Personal Reflection

What I learned is that it’s okay to look at other people’s work for inspiration. I was trying too hard to be original and unique, only to realize that wasn’t really possible. The shapes and lines were perfect using drafting tools.
