line: A mark on the surface, usually created by a pen, pencil, or brush. Lines vary in width, length, direction, color, and degree of curve, and can be two dimensional or implied.

This line design study project was the first in this course and was meant to teach me the fundamentals of lines. In this project I used line to portray different feelings or emotions by making different lines and arcs of different weights that resembled an idea. The themes I needed to portray were that of power and fragility. The first step to this project was to brainstorm what words came to mind when I thought of both power and fragility and I wrote them down. I then began thinking of what images came to mind when thinking of all these synonyms. After I had come up with some ideas I drew 6 for each theme in 2inx2in boxes.

After peer review to help explain our thoughts we had to choose 4 out of the previous 12 sketches and turn them into 4inx4in final pieces.

This project helped me form a better thought process of the power of lines and the feelings or moods they can portray. I also learned how to balance negative space in a confined area better.
