Sweet pork buns

image image

Tuesday afternoon I went to a dumpling place near our school (Golden Fried Dumpling) and ordered my usual pork and chive dumplings, and decided to try something new so I got the sweet pork bun. When I got home after the train ride I bit into it and it was probably one of the most delicious things I’ve eaten. The surrounding dough was sweet, and the middle was warm and savory which made the combination of the two incredible. The pork seemed to have been cooked for hours because it melted in my mouth when I took a bite. Needless to say I will definitely be going back.

Maison Kayser

“Founded by Eric Kayser in Paris in 1996, Maison Kayser is an authentic artisanal French Boulangerie, meaning that bread and other baked goods are mixed and baked on-site all day long. Recognized as one of the most talented artisan bakers of his generation, Eric Kayser has built his reputation on his passion for bread, the quality of his products and his incredible skill to combine authenticity and innovation in the world of French artisanal bakeries. Born into a family of French bakers, dating back four generations, Eric Kayser started his baker apprenticeship at age 14. He was exposed very early on to the art of baking, perfected his techniques for five years with the“Compagnons du Devoir et du Tour de France” . In 1996, he opened his first bakery, Rue Monge, in the heart of the Quartier Latin in Paris, France. It was an immediate success and as of today, Maison Kayser has over 100 shops in over 20 different countries!”

Shake Shack

Shake Shack is located Southeast corner of Madison Square Park near Madison Ave. and E.23rd St. By viewing as a outsider since i have never eaten anything from restaurant it looks like  their lines does be very long especially around lunch hour. I’ve heard  about the restaurant before but  unfortunately  i never tried  the  food. I would also like to see  what’s the hype  about , when  people  talk about  Shake  Shack. I’ll definitely try it soon.

Union Square Greenmarket

The Market had a lot of interesting raw ingredient and foods that are not found in a common supermarket. There was ostrich eggs, fresh mistake (which I have only seen dried), potted apple and orange mint (both are approaching the end of their season for people looking for them fresh at specialty markets), and young ginger (normally found inspring). During the time that I was there it was the Friday afternoon so the market is calming down without the crowds and the merchandise has mostly been pick over. So if you are planning to shop be the early bird, but if you are going just to go (and to avoid the people) afternoon is a good time to stroll through and see what the market has to offer. I would definitely go and visit again as a shopper and not a just be loiterer.

Beechers

I think this cheese shop was my most favorite out of all the locations we visited on our field trip to Flatiron. It was cool to see how they make cheese there. We got to taste it, too. There is also a wine cellar (with a happy hour!) downstairs. I am planning to check that out!

Chicken Satay

Last night my fiancée and I went to a Thai restaurant, and for the first time I tried chicken satay. Although it just looks like grilled chicken on a stick, it was seasoned with turmeric and curry powder. To accompany it was a side of peanut sauce and a citrus vinaigrette. The chicken was grilled perfect and was still juicy inside, and the seasonings gave you just enough kick. The onlyr thing I was not too fond of was the peanut sauce which tasted just like peanut butter and was too thick.
