Reflection 3

Think about a time when you joined a new group activity (maybe a team, religious retreat, club, or workplace).

  • How did you feel when you first joined?
  • Do you recall a moment when you felt like you were part of the group?
  • What benefits did you get from participation in the group?
  • What can you do to help yourself feel like part of a group at City Tech?

I remember joining the track team and I was excited because I wanted to go the the weight room. I made friends with some of the members there and we were all running together and that felt nice. We were motivating each other. Being in the track team was good for my overall health. To feel part of a group I should join a club etc.

Hopefully you find a club here at makes you feel the same way as you were with your track team. I know there is not a lot of sports teams here yet but I think something in the school gym may interest you and that could be meeting people there or even working there(yes it is paid).

A time I joined a new environment is when I transferred to a new highschool mid year! I remember feeling very left out and sticking out like a sore thumb.A moment I felt like I belonged was when I made new friends that introduced to me to everyone else. Participating benefit me by allowing me new opportunities that I would not have found myself. To feel apart of the City Tech community I will join groups that interest me!

Hopefully you do find opportunities here at city tech and hopefully you find people and friends that make you feel like you belong here. It is not about finding any community it is about finding the right people and the right community here that makes all the difference.

I had joined a swimming team in my school. I felt nervous because I was scared I was going to be a bad teammate. A moment I recall would’ve been the games we will all cheer for each other. I learned how to do new tricks and how to fix the things I did wrong in swimming. One thing I can do to feel part of a group in city tech is be more open and social and join clubs.

    • David Mendez Medina

Being open and social is already enough to meet a lot of people here surprisingly. People here are very open and helpful so hopefully you do find a group that teaches you and helps you along your way here.

When I first joined the volleyball team I was self conscious. I felt like I was part of the group when my teammates partnered with me. Participating in volleyball helped me learn teamwork skills. I can join some clubs and find people with similar interests at city tech.

    • David Mendez Medina

As someone who used to play volleyball starting off is always the worst when first playing I know a lot of people who would love to have a volleyball club and I do know people who still go down to the piers to play. Hopefully you can find something you like and enjoy here.

Seems like you got a great mindset there. A lot of what you said is great and is the mindset you should have going into college.

When I first joined my high schools basketball team, I remember how it made me want to interact with more people and get involved with other things. The team unlocked a side of me that I didn’t discover at the time.

    • David Mendez Medina

Hopefully you discover more about yourself here with more groups and more people. The more you do things the more you start realizing things about yourself you would not have known if you did not try.

  7. Daniil

You will do better if you do something in a group because the group members will always be able to support you and give advice on the group theme.

    • David Mendez Medina

Yes! Even if you do not like your groupmates you still learn things from them and you still have to have each others backs which makes getting along with them better or easier depending on who they are.
