Welcome

This Open Educational Resource (OER) provides students and faculty interested in the field of Communication Design Theory with a collection of contemporary and historical media to support their research.

The Bibliography offers a growing list of readings and supporting media, which examine theoretical perspectives of design practice within the larger discourse of design and visual culture. Topics include communication models, the nature of representation, the dimensions of context, and semiotics, among others.

The Topics section offers curated selections inspired by Helen Armstrong’s book Graphic Design Theory: Readings From the Field.

Students, faculty, and researchers are encouraged to submit openly available resources for inclusion.
