This was photographed by a German artist Arno Fischer. The name of the photo was called “New York Staten Island Ferry in 1978.” From the way it looks it was taken im early 1978. As a staten island resident I can look at myself here in their point of view. You cam see the ferry riders viewing from the boat to see all of Manhattan. One person that captured my attention was the old man who looks tired or bit stressed. He out of every rider. Captures the moment in the photo.
The three elements used are leading lines. Diagonals, and dephth. The Leading lines can be seen in the photograph by giving the audience a direction to view upon from the riders and viewing Manhattan. I also say diagonals because of the direction the riders are on, the right side of the boat. And depth because of viewing from the nearest part such as the ferry to viewing the borough of Manhattan.
Certainly the diagonal line of viewers connects the riders to Manhattan. Here the diagonal and the leading line are really the same thing. I would say the sense of depth comes from the diminishing scale that we see in the riders and then the contrast of scale between the tiny buildings of Manhattan and the riders.
I asked everyone to pick a photograph by a photographer on the list I distributed. You selected an interesting photograph but in general I would prefer if you followed the directions given.
