You describe the photo well. The most salient feature is the woman who is looking out from the crowd as you mention in your first paragraph. Her gesture indicates great anxiety. The rest of the image does not distract. She and the doorway behind her are generally darker than everything else in the picture. This also focuses our attention on her.
