Assignment:

2 Change the size to create a typographic poster

You will create 2 versions following the steps below

• 11×17″ with outline
•  no color
•  Use only these elements:

          1. designer’s name
          2. year of birth
          3. location (country, state, or city)
          4. medium (graphic design, maps, books, branding?)
          5. approximately 10 word quote
            or
            approximately 10 word description

3. Work in this order:

A Size 11×17″
5 columns
5 rows
no margin or gutter
Refer to last weeks assignments for column set up and content requirements.

Use one typeface that your designer uses (use different variations bold, regular, italic; and sizes)
• Maximum of 3 levels of clear hierarchy
•  Exaggerate hierarchy, changing type size less 10 points does not count

C Choose ONE focal point based on proportion

D Position your top hierarchal element in that area to emphasizes proportion

E Your remaining text:
• Group like things together (“mass” your type based on content)
•  Apply only 2 levels of hierarchy. (The first level of hierarchy is your title)

• Use only the 3 right vertical columns; Leave the 2 left columns open
• Align the left side of all of your remaining text to the left side of the third column
• Make sure that some of your text is at least 2 columns wide so that it does not appear centered

4. Create another poster but vary your alignment and hierarchy.
Continue to use alignment to create structure
Create relationships with at least one strong central alignment

Post both versions in one frame in Miro

Remember previous objectives

• refine your quote, take out quote marks and dashes.
•  “mass” your white space, off-center
• do not center anything

2  Influence

    1. Find 2 different examples of design that show a direction that you would like to work on after graduation
      • On this assignment, anything goes—You do not need to find design that uses a system.
    2. Post both images and the designer’s name to Miro
