  • Revise your icon create a 5 inch negative and a positive version
  • Add a 1-point outline to each square
  • Center each version on a 8.5×11″ page
  • Print and bring to class

Alignment with hierarchy

Show 3 levels of hierarchy using size and weight
**Make dramatic scale changes 

Repeat the assignment from last class

Remember:

    • Do not align all your text to the edge of the page
    • Do not circle all text around the center of the page
    • Create alignments
    • Think about reading a page with different types of text,
      title, subhead, text, callout, sidebar, etc.
    • Using less text might help
      1. Create 3 different compositions
      2. Use dummy type to align to both horizontal and vertical grid lines
      3. For each composition, create 3 levels of hierarchy
      4. Outline each composition with a 1-point rule
      5. Save as a jpg
      6. In Miro, choose a box that is to the RIGHT of the GREEN rectangle: Alignment 2
      7. Add 3 compositions to one box. Add your name.
        • Align dummy type to the grid
        • Use horizontal and vertical alignments
        • Use multiple alignments
        • Do not create a center column
        • Aligning on the edge of the page does not count as an alignment


Where do you place your hierarchy for greatest emphasis?

3 Use alignment

Make sure your text is not centered
check that you do not have the same space above and below

Mass your white space
make sure you have a large group of white space
