Fort Greene Dreams

Fort Greene Dreams tells the story of Nelson George who is a music and culture critic, journalist, and a filmmaker. He served as a music editor and he helped to finance director Spike Lee’s debut feature “She’s Gotta Have It.” Nelson lived in Jamaica, Queens apartment. He got a phone call from Spike and told him how he is moving to Fort Greene, Brooklyn. When he moved to Brooklyn he noticed how it’s totally different from living in Queens. He then later started comparing Queens and Brooklyn. Nelson said how in Brooklyn he lives in a duplex apartment with wood floors, two bedrooms, a large kitchen, and etc. Back in Queens he shared a room with his sister and the place was all tidied up. He wrote 5 books living their but now since he lives in a big apartment his mind has open and now he has more ideas. Nelson realized what kind of a writer and lover he was. He was a mentor and a teacher like his mother. Nelson only didn’t write about artists and hang out with them, but he found himself being a kind of one-man for supporting people. Nelson said how he saw artists who gave up and are tired of all this but his dream was to write a bookshelf of volumes, so that one day he might drown in them. But more importantly he wanted to have a full active life and to be productive. Last but not least he said ”Achieving sustained excellence is what I preached to others and sought for myself.”
