  1. Task 3:

With the lack of activities outside the window, the suburban neighborhood of Staten Island appears nice and peaceful while concealing the distress of COVID-19 social distancing. The wave of calmness extends to Bay Ridge Parkway, Brooklyn. On an empty driveway, three children broke the silence with cheers and laughter. The six to ten-year-old boys, with blond-brownish hair, spoke English to each other. They tossed a ball around the miniature basketball stand, and a middle-aged woman supervised from the porch. The kids probably felt restless being cooped at home. Meanwhile, the mother worried about catching the disease. The news outlet reported near 100,000 coronavirus deaths in the United States. However, the attention towards the pandemic shifted to Black Lives Matter movement. Tension escalates as protesters gathered across the nation after a police officer murdered George Floyd. How will you break the silence?

  2. Some of the similarities between what is outside my window and outside Alpha’s is that people speak Bangil,English and Spanish in both neighborhoods. Our neighborhoods are also very quiet neighborhoods especially these days due the Covid19 pandemic. One of the differences i see is the French language as I have never heard anyone speak French throughout my stay in my neighborhood unlike Alpha’s neighborhood.

  4. We live in Bayridge, Brooklyn and Ozone Park, Queens , although we live in different boroughs we noticed that despite the coronavirus, young people are always going to take advantage of good weather and still make room for social and physical activities. Ozone park has a larger Bengali speaking community, while Bayridge has a mixture of several languages. We found is older people both in Bayridge and Ozone park would prefer to stay inside and take safety precautions. In Ozone park there are only a few grocery stores open while in Bayridge more businesses are starting to open up. Both neighborhoods are more busy this month than when quarantine was first implemented in NYC.

  5. I was working with Mohamed Sawadogo for this task to find out the differences and similarities we have when we look outside our windows. The main difference between my partner and I is that we are from two different boroughs. He is from the Bronx and I am from Queens. The neighborhood where he lives is not as diverse as mine because I can see many people from different countries while my partner only sees people from the Caribbean .In his area People mostly speak English or Jamaica Patois (English based creole) whereas people in my neighborhood speak various languages such as English, Bengali, Spanish, and many more. Additionally, even though I can see young people between 12-25 years old on the street gossiping and hanging around he could not see that many young people in his neighborhood. My partner believes that the main concerns of people in his neighborhood is maintaining themselves in good health during this Corona virus pandemic and praying for the businesses to reopen soon . However, In my area the main concerns of people is to get back to regular life and turn the page of the corona virus pandemic immediately. They also expressed a deep concern in the racial killing of Georges Floyd by Minneapolis police.
Although we see different things when we look outside our windows, we also have some similarities in our neighborhood. We both can see people on the street. The streets are not as empty as they were in the last two months. We both have people speaking English in our neighborhoods. Even though we believe that the main concerns of our neighborhood could be different, it is true that they all are awaiting to see this pandemic end as soon as possible.

  6. Task-3
From the 2 writings we can see that both the neighborhoods have been affected by the outspread of COVID-19. They both have similarities and difference on how the society is reacting to this situation. Some of the similarities are as follows: Firstly, both Richmond Hill and Jackson Heights are in Queens. Second, both neighborhoods are very diverse. When we look out the window, we see people from different communities are walking around the street. Third, we can observe that the community is afraid of COVID-19. Everyone outside their home are wearing gloves and masks. Everyone is social distancing themselves from each other. The environment of both areas is very tense. And lastly, people have been lining up outside the stores to get food and items. The good thing is that the lines are not very long and the customer service at those stores seem very fast.
Although we see a lot of similarities between these two areas, there are some but major differences between them. Some of the key differences are as follows: Firstly, after the outbreak of the COVID-19, most residents around Richmond Hill, Queens have limited themselves from going outside. The area seems to be very quiet. Before the outbreak, there would usually be a lot of people on the streets, now you would rarely see anyone outside. Whereas in Jackson Heights, Queens, the streets are still crowded. Even though people are wearing masks and gloves, you could still see big groups of people in the streets socializing with each other. There was a religious event that took place here recently. If anyone saw the amount of people that attended, they would surely believe that everything was back to normal. Secondly some of the small business have still remained closed around Richmond Hill. In Jackson Heights, almost all the businesses have opened and the ones that were closed till the middle of May have started to reopen again. Therefore, we see that COVID-19 has directly affected the proper functioning of both areas and areas around the world.

  7. Choosing between areas can sometimes be overwhelming for some individuals. Nevertheless, both neighborhoods we are living have their specific advantages and disadvantages. The places I live which is a diverse neighborhood with various types of people like African American, with Asian, and Hispanic populations. This neighborhood people are more bustling on activities like car racing and outdoor BBQ party. People in this community speak more than one language such as Bengali, Spanish, Hindi, and Urdu. On the other hand, my teammate Mosammat Perven neighborhood where the most population are Hispanic majority and they only speak Spanish and English. As right now the main concern in both communities are pretty much the same CVD-19 & racism. Luckily my teammate neighborhoods people are taking an extra precaution every moment by placing their face mask and hand gloves on whenever they come out from their home. But if we move one community to another, we see a different picture like my area. People are not taking any extra precautions when they are going out and doing fun activities like racing on the street and doing outdoor party. As we all know many lives have already lost on this pandemic, people don’t want to lose their one anymore. Not only CVD-19 pandemic is the conflict now, it shifting to other directions where people also want to get freed from racism.

  8. Task 3

Although we live in different boroughs of NYC we both live among neighbors of youth and seniors. Due to their weaker immunity against COVID- 19. We have to be more careful with our surroundings and concentrate on their safety. For this reason, the streets remain empty and everyone kept their social distance throughout the past week of protesting for justice.

  9. Task 3

I and my teammate, Asif, live in the same neighborhood. Our similarities are we hear the same Spanish, Bengali, and English languages. I see more Bengali people and some Spanish people than Asif. The main concern of our community is corona-virus. Fortunately, we see most people take precautions in their everyday life such as wearing a face mask or hand gloves.

  10. As we took note of our neighborhood through our windows, both Christopher and I, Sadeek, observed various similarities and differences. We both saw people of all ages conversing outside; some voice their concerns about the COVid-19 pandemic, which killed thousands of Americans. Being both from Brooklyn, we observed the interestingly different neighborhoods within our boroughs. Christopher saw a more diversified community which consists of various ethnic groups such as, Italians, Spanish, Chinese, Hispanic, and African American, all speaking different languages. On the other hand, my community has a strong Jewish presence speaking mostly Hebrew, Yiddish, and the English Language. Christopher also mentioned about the riots related to the death of an African American male at the hands of police officers. The riots in Brooklyn are not happening directly in our communities but is just minutes away by transportation. These mass gatherings, which reduce social distancing, hinders our efforts to beat the COV-19 pandemic. Both our communities are bracing for the aftermath.

    1. As we combine both of our thinking or observation ,Ismil Hossain and I have some similarity, which is
Outside  everything went silent because everyone  goes to work and some people mostly home .Some people come out of their house and sit in front of it and chat with other family members but everyone  has to wear a mask and gloves without forcing the social distance  since the pandemic hit. But another hand , we both have differences task , Idrissou  live in Harlem,  a place where everything is dense with flea markets to almost anything you want or need, around her there’s multiple races with different languages  but Ismil live hollis, queens, a place where is very quiet  because everyone owns private houses, A place there  is empty space so  they have either in front of the house or in the backyard . it allows them to play with their family and distress themselves by going something like planting a variety of vegetables such as cucumber, green chilli, tomatoes, potatoes, spinach, egg plant, etc. overall, this area feels like a weekend everyday, because everyone is home.

  12. Task 3:

Although we reside in different neighborhoods, we noticed a couple of similarities when we looked outside our windows. Minorities happen to be the majority in both of our neighborhoods. Hispanics take over much of them, specifically Dominicans. The people we saw outside our windows were making the most of these strange times. They were listening to music and walking their dogs, trying to capture a sense of normalcy. Samay’s neighborhood population is younger compared to mine. Samay’s neighborhood is currently undergoing gentrification, with more white citizens moving there. In comparison, more Hispanics are moving into my area, which once was home to many Germans decades ago. While his population seemed to be more concerned or even determined, about the state of their community, the people outside my window were cautious of the pandemic we’re currently going through.
