Walker Evans was a great photographer. The way he photographs in order to capture things or expressions in the moment is quite interesting due to him taking the photos in secret. Which he hid his camera within his coat in order to capture in the moment expressions, to show how the expressions of people were during the depression era. Some people looked at him, which shows curiosity. Other people are minding their own business or they looked deep within their thoughts. Other people are reading books or newspapers. In Walker Evans’ Subway Portrait Series, I do see similarities between the riders’ expressions and today’s riders. Today people in the subway are minding their own business, people seem like they are deep into their thoughts. Riders from both the depression era and today, some people are chatting with their friends. Just like the riders’ during the depression era. Today riders’ read books, some look at newspapers. The only difference is that majority of today’s riders are using their electronics. Such as using their phones, listening to music or using a hand-held game.

I agree that many passengers today are minding their own business using electronics. Back in the great depression riders were also minding their own business and reading newspapers. I always hear people say that technology has taken us away from being social but as you can see in some of Evans’ photos, even back then, riders would mind their own business. Even the use of newspapers and electronics are similar.
I agree with you, i also see similarities between the passenger. if i would it see this picture without knowing that it was taken from the great depression era, i wouldn’t notice because people are just doing their own thing, with the only difference that they are using more electronic or doing work.
