Reading the article gives a sense that it is good learn the old photographic process. Knowing the old school way and modern way helps you out even more because if your in different situations and want a photo to stand out more, both ways can help you. Today we have automatic settings that does all the work for us, but if your becoming a photographer you need all the techniques to give yourself much more experience. This can also affect the older era because there not known to the new digital way of photographer. With phones having all these filters makes it easy to make a photo turn black and white etc. But it wont have the authentic look like the people who take the time out and create it by scratch. Yes its more time consuming but it helps you out in the long run so this way if someone ask you can you do this you can answer with experience, which makes it better on yourself.
