I believe that a “selfie” is not art. If you look at past self portraits of photographers and painters, they tell something about the individual. With a “selfie” it is just generic fad that has specific types of “selfies”. Even though most photographs are considered art, these are not. “Selfies” are for documentary purpose, since they document general fads that come and go. People do perform when taking this type of photo, however its just a fake performance that does nothing and gives no story or characteristic of the individual taking the photo. The only thing that is really stated from the picture is that the person is up to date on the latest trend of social media. There is honestly no problem with a “selfie” however its not art. Usually types of art are the same based on the principles used but they always have a distinct detail that sets each one apart.
