In my opinion, the reason why the photograph trend is now going backward to the civil war era which is a reverse from simple point and shoot back to complex wet-plate process is that photographer found out that those photographs being processed through wet-plate process can express deeper meaning of the photographs and also, represent in a much classic way. Even though people can easily make the photos look “older” by using filter function either on the smart phone or on computer, the rendering power of the photographs could not be as strong as by the “old” process. By knowing how the wet-plate works my instant reaction is ‘that sounds or looks more like art to me instead of holding a smart phone to take a “instant” picture’. And maybe I am not the only person that feels that way, maybe the modern artists too, that is the reason why the civil war ear’s complex wet-plate process is now reappearing as photographers’ favor.
