In Ritchin’s article he writes “Images, of course, take on new meanings depending upon the contexts in which they are displayed”, and I completely agree with him. Rolling Stone glamorized this tragedy to increase their sales by putting him on the front cover and their logo on his head in big bright red letters. I’ve always been an avid reader of Rolling Stone Magazine but was shocked when this issue came out with Tsarnaev’s face all over the front cover, at that moment I completely lost my interest and respect for Rolling Stone. Many celebrities expressed their thoughts including one of my favorite musicians named Nikki Sixx who said that the cover “disrespected families of the Boston bombing victims 100%.” A picture expresses a lot and people need to be careful how they choose to present that image to others.
