Employers seek excellent communication skills both verbal and written. They also prefer experience in that particular field of 2 years minimum but if is an Internship then must likely they wont required much or just the basics. Employers also require a certain level of expertise with the use of computers, Programs such as Photoshop, illustrator, Lightroom, Adobe Suit.

Employers hiring are mostly non-profit or independent advertising agencies, magazines, and Studios.

The education at City Tech has prepared me by emphasizing the need to become familiar with both the traditional way of doing Advertisement which includes Programs and research, as well as becoming familiar with Advertiser and Professionals that are already in the field and can help me get there. In addition, This kind of job allows me to become more creative not just in the work area but in my life, for occasions like birthdays, parties, etc. The things i can do with this are endless.

Even though I have not yet completed a bachelor’s degree in the field of electrical engineering, I believe that I have many other core strengths and skills that can, and will help me attain the job of my preference. Nonetheless, my college experience has greatly impacted those skills by teaching me the fundamentals of electricity and how it must be handled in a professional setting. Based on the degree that I plan to achieve, a Bachelor’s in electrical engineering, the jobs that are available to me include various apprenticeship programs offered by many companies all over New York. Also, possibly starting as a Junior electrical engineer for the MTA, LIRR, local hospitals, and even applying to the union for work would all be great potential employment opportunities.

My main goal within the profession is to find a challenging position with a hardworking employer to develop a successful career as an electrical engineer/electrician to better utilize my effective technical and electrical skills. As for the employer, this field of occupation is necessary in almost every network/electrical based business. Ex: MTA, LIRR, Port Authority, Schools, Buildings, Hospitals, and much more. My preferred work setting would be out on the field, where I can meet new people and have on the site training as well as develop a solid grasp of all aspects of the technical field.

Many but not all of the qualifications set out by employers are taught in the college classroom. Some simply just have to be learned within the business setting. Of course, many employers that are hiring electrical engineers require that the employee have a Bachelors degree in engineering as well as some minimal experience in the field. Since I plan to work in the field, (not necessarily in an office type setting) the employer requires that I can handle going up and down tall ladders, carrying moderate loads of weight and of course, carry a valid driver’s license. As a person carrying a Bachelor’s Degree, I am pretty sure my employer would require me to know  how to use basic programs such as Microsoft word, and excel. Additionally, certain programs designed for engineering purposes, such as multism and AutoCad.

I believe that the information and the classes that I have taken thus far in CityTech have brought me closer to the career of my choice. Although I still have a lot of courses to take, they all are there to prepare me for the work that will be required of me. Admitting that many of the courses aren’t completely goal oriented, but they help establish a foundation for the ones that are. I definitely feel as though the hands on experience that I have done, off campus, has greatly affected the efficiency and knowledge of my major, and will help me better connect to my career and my employer.
