Class is Virtual Thursday 11/30

Hey folks,

I hope you had a great thanksgiving holiday.

I’m under the weather and don’t want to get anyone sick, so we’ll be meeting online this coming Thursday.  A few things:

  1. Last class meeting I forgot that Jetmire and Parmbir were supposed to do their presentations, so they will be doing them on Thursday first thing, but virtually. I’ll share the screen with them and let them walk us through their presentations. Your job will be to serve as an attentive audience, take notes, ask interesting questions, etc.
  2. Remember that your reading for the day is to read Wanono. Her article is on the right hand side at the top. The plan is to have a rich discussion on this article as it relates to our projects.
  3. Naila Butt, a former student, will be present and will discuss her culture jam assignment and her process to serve as inspiration for you.
  4. Everyone should post their drafts of their two Culture Jam assignments. We will go round robin and give informal presentations on our projects, our thinking, developments, inspiration. Make sure to post the two images (but link to them from the outside so as to save space on the blog) and as per the directions on the assignment sheet, make sure to include an artist’s statement about your process, the technology you used, why you chose this project, etc. Remember, one project should be a culture jam, where you interrupt some kind of media message and the other should be a creative project, where you aim to change something for the better in our mediascape.
  5. Make sure we can easily see your images. Take the time to double check and make sure your work is accessible.
  6. See you Thursday online via zoom. I’ll post the link to this blog right before class on Thursday.
