Some of you expressed confusion in our last class regarding how to use the 1/16″=1′-0″ scale. I put together a little image (and PDF for download) below showing a comparison between the 1/16″=1′-0″, 1/8″=1′-0″, and 1/4″=1′-0″ scales. Unlike all of the others on your architectural scale, the 1/16″=1′-0″ scale does not have the measurements labelled. Each tick on the 1/16″=1′-0″ scale represents 1 foot in real measurements (and every inch of real measurements = 16 feet on your drawing).

On the left hand side, I marked up to 16 feet on each scale. On the right hand side, I used a drawing showing an 8′ high ceiling to demonstrate how you would measure that using each scale.

Hopefully this helps!
