Ryan F. Homework #2

Many photos that Walker Evans had taken on the subway during the great depression show how that whole time period was feeling. By the look in the peoples faces, it was a hard time and most were just trying to get by. Although these photos were taken and only published in 1966, some of the same faces of passengers could be found in subways today. This era may not be directly in a depression but some people are still having a rough time getting by in todays society. I think Evans’ portraits showed the country what was really going on and that everybody was in the same lull as everyone else. It almost gives a sense of unity how everybody’s expressions are so similar.
