The Louvre is a museum of art and antiquities located in Paris, France. Although having gone through a lot of reconstruction and renovation, It is mostly comprised of cut stone. It is also a vast complex of pavilions and wings on four levels. With the Louvre pyramid made entirely out of glass and steel. The pyramid measures 116 feet wide and 70 feet high. With 95 tons of steel and 105 tons of aluminum used to support the structure.   The circulation of the museum seems a little confusing since the entrance is not made clear. The Louvre pyramid is utilized as a statement piece to attract, and capture the beauty and grandeur of the surrounding buildings. It is properly used to signify an entrance in an elegant way. And since it is composed of glass, lights are used to illuminate the pyramid to make it stand out and really emphasizes importance. The form and shape of the entrance is familiar as it has the same proportions as the pyramids of Giza. Its shape is also used as a reminder of their egyption collection inside the museum. So its form and shape are not only beautiful but functional as well. Looking closer at the pyramid, the glass is made of up smaller triangles and diamonds, almost making it seem like the pyramid is made out of cut jewels. The pyramids prominent organizational system in this case is more of a grid organization as it uses its formation of glass as a grid to create a bigger three dimensional figure.

My building I chose was the Taj Mahal which was designed by Ustad Ahmad Lahouri. The first item I chose from the Firmitatis list was materials. According to https://whc.unesco.org, the Taj Mahal was created using sandstone and marble. The majority of the exterior is actually made out of marble “which they used elephants to transport it on”. The Taj Mahal also had some crystals that they got from other countries. The second item I chose was from the utilitatis list and it was cost. Emperor Shah Jahan had created this building for one of his wives, so he was pretty wealthy. That being said, this building is very expensive, you can probably imagine because even now real Marble is pretty expensive. According to reference.com it cost “32 crore rupees…in today’s currency is more than $200 million dollars.” Lastly from the venustatis list , I chose form/shape. The Taj Mahal is a very symmetrical building. The “base” is a square building then on top of it, it has a huge dome on top of it. Then in the center there is an Arch as a main entrance. Looking at CHing’s organizational systems, I would say it is a centralized organization. That is because there aren’t many buildings or structures near it at all. They are pretty far away and it is actually right near a bunch of trees and a river.

I have a lot of interest in Mexican architecture. My parents were both born in Mexico, and I have visited the country a couple of times and have witnessed some of their structures in person. One particular site that intrigued me was the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral. I have visited the Cathedral several times and still fascinates me. The Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral begins when a Bishop named Friar Juan De Zumarraga arrives in Mexico City in 1528. Hernan Cortes, a Spanish Conquistador, had begun constructing the church in 1524, and Zumarraga finished in 1532. This structure stood up for about a century. With the permission of Alonso de Montufar, there was a permanent Cathedral soon to be constructed. Beginning with laying the foundations in 1562, Claudio de Arciniega was the designer, and Juan Miguel de Aguero was the master builder. Walls were being raised in 1573, officially starting the construction. The Cathedral was built over ruins of the Aztec temple Tenochtitlan. In 1989, reconstruction began. Under excavation began for the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral and the Sagrario Church. This was done to level the structures and make the foundations stronger.
