Internship | Journal Entry #1

In March 2022, I had the opportunity to start working as an intern at the Public Affairs and Partnerships department of City Tech. City Tech is a public college that offers four-year programs specialized in different disciplines related to healthcare, technology, and others. City Tech is at the corner of Tillary and Jay Streets with over 365,000 square feet of new space. It also has more than ten thousand enrolled students with strong diversity and different backgrounds. City tech was founded in 1946 and has accomplished many remarkable milestones.

At the Public Affairs and Partnerships department, we aspire to provide new programs for students that benefits both the students and outside companies. These relationships can only be forged through the communication and detailed offers from the (PAP). Throughout the years, PAP has made meaningful connections and partnerships with different entities such as Microsoft, INFOR, Idealist, and others.

In Example, INFOR was a tech company that offered City Tech programs that are not part of their options such as Application Development and Integration center through innovation labs and learning environment.

City Tech has also had articles published on different companies like Adobe. Professor Douglas Davis was featured in one of these articles ” Business Skills for creative leaders: Drive business with the Creative Strategy Framework. This article breaks down a guide for creatives to reach their business potential by using a framework. This process is divided into four parts:

1. Identify the target audience.

Getting to know which audience your business needs will save you time and resources to focus more on the right one.

2. Collect as many facts as you can.

Data is key when it comes to customers’ patterns and choices. Having knowledge about different statistics will help to narrow your audience even more.

3. Connect Features and Benefits.

Customers will always feel the need for safety and satisfaction from their products. Creating a list of the benefits and features that your product provides will help you to have a clear vision of what’s missing and what else your clients need.

4. Formulate your message or Objective.

Being clear about what your business wants to achieve, will help you through the uncertainty of trying many things that wouldn’t work.

Douglas also mentions that presenting your idea to business leaders using the framework also helps you to approach conversations of value.
