The BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke) is a world-renowned German automobile, motorcycle and engine manufacturer headquartered in Munich, Bavaria. The logo was renowned to be one of the world’s best car logos in history. The logo consists of four quadrants in blue and white tint; a roundel that holds these two national colors of Bavaria. The font that the BMW logo uses is Helvetica typeface, which is designed by Eduard Hoffmann and Max Miedinger in 1957 , it was used due to its simplicity and how it is easy for people to recognize their logos. The logo’s blue and white came from spinning propellers which comes from a 1929 advertisement, which featured aircraft with the image of the Roundel in the rotating propellers.
BMW logo progressed through the years of how the lines were much more refined and how the shape would be make more 3D like so it would stand out more. The main colors of the logo which is blue and white were kept as a suggestion to the sky since the idea was most likely from the propellers of an aircraft. Through reading most of BMW’s history of how its logo evolved from 1916 since its company’s birth is how they never changed the shape of the car logo. The logo is yet simple but packs a powerful imagery to the consumers mind due to its great use of color.
In conclusion the BMW logo and its motor vehicles has been very successful in its industries due to its luxurious cars. One thing I learned is that they first started from building aircrafts to manufacturing cars since one would be on land and one is in the air. Though later on in the years of the BMW Logo I would wonder why did change their logos like other motor vehicle companies. The colors of the BMW logo was to also signify the Bavarian Free state which is located in Germany. The State capital Munich is known for its annual Oktoberfest beer festival, art museums and ornate Nymphenburg Palace.
