MELBOURNE VIC 3000 RE: Graduate Nurse PositionIn the year 2012 , I will graduate from
the La Trobe Rural Heath school, Bendigo Campus, La Trobe University with a Bachelor of
Nursing. I wish to apply for a position in your graduate program because I was informed
from a former Graduate nurse at Collins Health Group that your graduate program is
excellent . As an organisation with high educational standards and a wide variety of
clinical settings, your program offers the opportunity for me to further develop my
knowledge and skills and grow as a professional nurse.

My Bachelor of Nursing degree has provided me with an exceptional understanding of nursing practices and clinical skills, the use of technology and caring values. During my clinical placements I was educated in problem-solving, clinical reasoning and mentored to use my initiative in a range of clinical settings. Through my successful completion of clinical placement I have been able to evaluate my clinical skills and   consider myself competent and safe in the practice of clinical nursing skills and am able to work within legal and ethical standards of practice.

In addition to my studies, my employment experiences at Echuca Regional health and Wharparilla Lodge as a Division Two Registered Nurse has provided me with outstanding communication skills and enabled me to further practice required nursing skills. Furthermore being employed as a Division Two Registered nurse has allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of   nursing professionalism as well giving me insight into what can be expected and what is expected of a registered nurse.

To support my application for the Collins Healthcare Group Graduate Nursing Program I have enclosed my CV. Thank you for your consideration, I’m eager… (http://www.antiessays.com/free-essays/270938.html)

Philosophy of Nursing

My philosophy of nursing are based on the aspects of quality care, patient advocacy, maintaining patient safety goals, and evidence- based practices. Nursing is viewing the patient holistically and not focusing solely alone on their disease process.Nursing is a function consisting of many roles that the nurse carries out which helps take part in the care of the patient. In nursing the nurse and the patient are important members of the team. They work together to understand one another by the patient being able to confide in the nurse with the needs and concerns they may have. The nurse is then able to use her nursing judgment to deliver the highest quality care for the patient.
The philosophy behind nursing begins with assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and reassessment. Assessment is an observational key aspect that can prevent detrimental situations from occurring. Planning is an action plan for the patient in terms of the benefits they need to progress from their current state. Intervention is placing this plan into action and allowing the course to take place. Evaluation is viewing the patient outcomes and the positive and negative feedback gained from the intervention. Reassessment takes place when goals are not met and patient outcomes did meet the expected standards. This process is followed to maintain patient safety goals. By instituting this process into everyday nursing practice this reduces the chances of errors occurring and we as nurses begin to view our patients more than just on a superficial surface.
Nursing begins with the basics of human life. By looking at Maslow’s Hierarchy we must satisfy the basic needs of human life in order to help our patients escalate and advance up the pyramid to self- actualization. Although many patients may not reach self- actualization the stage of love and security are sufficed at the time they are within our presence. The stage of love and security are portrayed and utilized throughout the Watson’s Human Caring Theory. Watson’s Theory is based on humanistic values, building a relationship with trust, developing a culture with respect for yourself and another individual, and being mindful of one’s culture, spiritual, and socioeconomic background. Nursing is conducive to fostering caring mechanisms.
