Procreate for the IPad.
Procreate is a digital sketching and painting app designed specifically for the iPad. The app basically gives you the ability to transform your iPad into a digital canvas and provides a professional-level medium for digital artists. In my opinion the app is very easy to use and maximizes screen space for your work. Unlike other apps I’ve used there’s zero stroke lag when painting in Procreate which is important when trying to replicate the feel of drawing traditionally. Each category within the brush library is full of options and you also get the ability to import, create, and share custom brushes. Procreate’s new CMYK support is very nice and the new animation assist function lets you hand draw animations by converting layers to frames. It’s nice that work saves automatically in the background as I tend to forget to save since I concentrate so much on working. Also the fact that the app opens and works with various files including PSD, TIFF, PNG, PDF, and JPEG files is pretty neat. Another neat thing about Procreate is the ability to record your drawings as videos that can be exported, which is something I found out recently. It’s cool to see my process and compare the feeling with the feeling I had actually drawing it. Some positives that I’ve noted about the app is its brush editor, the fact that it is responsive and fast, it’s easy for new artist to understand and the amount of tools the app provides. Some negatives are that color mixing feels a bit weird to me and different mediums don’t interact with each other.
