Essay 2: Introducing yourself visually and verbally, revised
Here were the instructions for Essay #1:
You have already found or created a photograph that tells the rest of the class about you because it captures your passion OR philosophy OR vision of your future in five (or ten) years. You have spent some time looking at the photograph and describing it. Using your photograph, your one-paragraph description of the photograph, and our class discussion about how to read a visual image, write an essay that answers the following questions:
What is your passion OR philosophy OR vision of your future in five (or ten) years?
How does this photograph represent your passion OR philosophy OR vision of your future in five (or ten) years? In answering this question, you will need to describe your photograph.
In what ways does the photograph not represent what you want it to, and how might it be read differently by your classmates?
For Essay #2, you will complete the assignment for Essay #1, and work through several drafts to develop a polished, well-planned, well-written essay.
Advice:
Use the paragraph you brought about your photograph and what you wrote in class for Essay #1 to help you get started. You might find that you want to go in a different direction, and you certainly can, but keep in mind your new due dates.
Write an outline of what you want to include in your essay. When you finish a draft, write a phrase or sentence about each paragraph to see an outline of the essay you have written. Use both your initial plan and your re-outline to help you develop your essay.
Your finished essay should be approximately 600 words, which is approximately two pages.
Please use your computer’s spell-check program and your own eyes to check for correctness before submitting your final version.
Schedule:
Complete draft due Monday, 19 September 2011—in class
Final version due Wednesday, 21 September 2011—online (instructions to follow)
