Angélica Dass: The beauty of human skin in every color
Seen on Ted Talks
Watching this webinar by Angelica Dass was very touching. I can relate to her, colorism has become an epidemic among the African American culture. It’s heart breaking to think that ones skin tone holds more relevance than the other. I also grew up in a family but most importantly a household with different skin tones. My mother and I are a lighter shade than my sister and father. I didn’t realize this until another classmate made a comment. My family came to a recital and I introduced my sister to my class, one child said we couldn’t be sisters because she isn’t the same color. I didn’t see a difference in our skin tones, and it was never a topic of discussion.
Dass’ photography project highlights all the pantones and matches them to individuals complexion. Her project demonstrates the equality among all; complexions, genders, and ethnicities. It brings a controversial subject to light. And forces the viewers to face the bare fact that all skin tones are beautiful and equal
