I attended the “Why Join A Professional Affiliation” workshop in school. The guest speak was, Terrence Peavy he attended MSED. He has done 20 years of higher education and has worked in four colleges. In this workshop Mr. Peavy explained that a professional affiliation is ” a synergistic organization or group a person belongs to based on involvement in a particular profession”. The over all goal of a professional affiliation is to expand the knowledge and skills of its memebers also to promote through networking activities and cooperations while maintaining its ethical practices. From this workshop I learned that there are types of professional affiliations such as; advisory, certification, affinity and licensure. Present day examples of these affiliations are American Medical Association, also American Bar Association among others.
