Fluoride Varnish Service Learning Project 

 

On April 19th and April 26th of 2018, I had the opportunity to participate in the Fluoride Varnish Program for Head Start Children. Although these children are raised with the unfortunate circumstance of low income, they were able to receive quality care after consent was given by their caregivers. The following services provided included:

  • A thorough intra-oral examination
  • Professional fluoride varnish application (5% Sodium Fluoride varnish)
  • Documentation of findings

 

Give Kids A Smile: Greater New York Dental Meeting 

  
On November 29th of 2017, I attended the Greater New York Dental Meeting at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. My colleagues and I provided the children with an informative lesson based on nutrition. We created song lyrics in reference to healthy foods VS “sugary” foods that should be taken in moderation, and coordinated a dance which was performed to keep the children entertained and captivated by our message.

Volunteered as a “Runner” for the Clinical Boards 

On May 2nd of 2017, I volunteered as a “runner” for the clinical boards. This experience provided me with insight in terms of what to expect on exam day. I was responsible for directing patients to a cubicle and notifying examiners when to check in/check out the patient.

Prepared Care Packages for Haiti Victims 

Members of the SADHA team in addition to non-members prepared 500 care packages for those in Haiti who were severely affected by the earthquake disaster. These packages included a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss.
