Hw 10/11

James Baldwin talks about how America is messed up, how there are so many privileges for a certain group of color, and less for black students. He says a child’s color should not affect which education they receive. Educators/teachers are the main cause of this issue of racism in America today. It’s up to him and society to change the ways of America. The world is larger means the world is beyond anything, this refers to our society and how it’s different from other societies and cultures. The “necessity” to examine, or the obligation to learn more about? Talks about if education helps students and if the goals are being achieved. I wish the basic things we need in life were taught in school like how to pay bills, manage money, file taxes, apply for jobs, and build a resume. All this stuff we need in real life a lot of adults are struggling because they weren’t taught any of this. We cannot go into the real-life world only knowing y=m+b, I feel like unnecessary things were taught to us. For example, we don’t need to learn so much math because we don’t use it in real life. I also wish I learned about the history of where I come from, racism, police brutality, and how badly It affected America, before I didn’t know all this stuff I was clueless, and I’ve experienced some cultural discrimination from other little kids, they made it seem so normal back then.

HW 10/11

I think James Baldwin was saying that there is more history out in the world than American history. I agree with him because it is true, there are many more countries with more history than America. We are only taught American history and so little history about the world that it seems that America’s history is huge compared to other countries. I think what he meant by “the world is larger” is American history is so little compared to the world. There are more larger, more daring, more beautiful, more terrible things in world history than there is in American.

It seems like this is always talked about but things I’m gonna use in life. We are not taught much about taxes, ways to keep money safe, and just things we would need to know in life. Yes the basic math, reading, writing, science, and history is needed but I promise I do not need to remember a bunch of math formulas to do my taxes. Yes some will be useful but there is no way I am using y = mx + b other than in school. I don’t think some of these things being taught will be useful in the future for most people/students. I feel the need that the basic things in life that are needed should be taught in school more often. This will prepare these students for the real world and set them up perfectly for a successful life. Setting up the future of the world perfectly would just make the world a bit better.
