Homework for 9/15

The start of the pandemic was a huge deal for me, and probably for the whole population of students in New York City, this had a great impact on my education as well as how I looked at it. Things after the DOE announced they will close the schools went downhill, for the schools and institutions, because at first students were so glad, that we were off for a few weeks, but then it turned into a few months, then an entire year, which was easy at all. There were many ways in which were able to learn and work virtually, which we have not tried before, or did not know exactly existed, this made it difficult for students, as well as teachers since working virtually, isnā€™t the same thing as working in person, which classmates present and working together, it made it harder for some of us to learn since some of us are visual and manual learners. Technology was also a small difficulty, I had heard from classmates and other students that they werenā€™t able to get their hands on a device, and/or did have the access to internet or WIFI at home, which made it impossible for them to attend class virtually. Being in class during those months, was difficult since sometimes attending class in bed or in the living room made it distracting and hard to concentrate sometimes too tired I would fall asleep in the middle of class, or the living room or kitchen will be loud I wouldnā€™t hear my classes or I would get distracted, gladly my internet worked most of the time. There were some days that the google classroom site would crash, lag, or stop loading, I couldnā€™t get into some of my classes, and sometimes my laptopā€™s mic wasnā€™t working, or even the camera. In certain classes, I was asked to do manual work, such as small models or projects, but my arts and crafts stores were kind of far, and I didnā€™t have any materials at home, or enough to complete them, this made it even harder because I was scared to go out and probably get sick

The pandemic was one of the most impacting and huge events in my education that has mentally, emotionally, and physically impacted me and my learning. Having to accommodate and adapt to a different way of learning, remotely, was a total twist for not only me but for my classmates and the rest of my school, I feel like at that moment, the whole education system had to rapidly accommodate and create virtual learning ways for students to efficiently learn as if they were present, this created a rush in school getting to know and control apps such as zoom, google classroom, and so on. The first idea I can write about in this assessment can be the difficulties many students have at home whenever they had to focus, work and connect in class because since we spent most of the day either in bed or in our living room at home, we would usually get distracted by things at home, some of us might even fall asleep and forget about our classes, this lack of focus was a huge problem for us and for our teachers who tried their best to teach us as if nothing had happened. Another topic I can write about can be the difficulty and lack of internet and technology devices at home, since some of us do not have the financial freedom to obtain a laptop, phone, or iPad at home, in addition to, many students had no access to internet/WIFI and home, and they couldnā€™t just go to the nearest library or nearest Starbucks to get free WIFI, everything was closed, and it was almost difficult to get access to the internet for those certain students. The last topic/idea I can write about can be the different systems each institution used in order to communicate with their students and with each other in general, some schools in other areas lacked technology devices as well as sources to create classes and have the up to date teach to teach, this made it difficult for the students in those schools to learn and do their work, this was an issue in low economic areas/neighborhoods.

When it comes to the education narrative genre, the ā€œingredientsā€ are applying past experiences and lessons that can be put in examples to teach and try to convey to the reader/audience that we can learn from any things, when it comes to learning a skill such as writing or reading, for example, in an article I read earlier In class, spoke to me about different ways I can grab a reader attention with a diverse phrase that they can agree with without making it controversial, or create a sense of favoritism, as well as teaching the audience with understanding the writers to think like them. Somewhere I would want to start in my education narrative is using the same skills and writing elements those authors who wrote used to communicate their lesson, I can go back to a moment in which you can make the audience relate to you because just like the writer did, you would want to get your message spread and hook the reader with special phrases and/or sentences. Some skills and experiences that I have recently learned are the way I can create a theme or an example that I know it has happened to many people in the process of learning, and write it specifically so the readers can stop and think about it, and realize the same thing has happened to them before.

Some questions and concerns id have for this educational narrative genre would be what specific starting points I can use to communicate my point. What exactly is considered an “educational narrativeā€
