From what I’ve seen so far, the conventions of the education narrative genre are figures of speech, culture/background, there’s a setting of realization, discovering your peace/ a solution to your problem, and a personal connection/ information. A place to get started on my own education narrative is to recall a past point in my life where maybe I’ve realized the significance of education, or at a time where I’ve struggled when it came to either education or school. I could also maybe explain my family background and how most of them struggled when it came to education, but those who succeeded, I was inspired and motivated to pursue education myself. A setting could be in the classroom or somewhere personal. Using figures of speech is also key because to me, I feel like it’s appealing to the reader when you add some sort of element/ technique when speaking of something personal. Somewhere personal would help the reader connect to my writing better so I feel like it would be best to do that. One concern I have is manipulating my past, because of course I don’t have perfect memory, so I would have to put it in a way where it makes sense. Another concern I have is that I can’t recall any instance where the solution to my educational issues is related to poetry. It seems that poetry has tied in all of the examples we’ve seen so far, so hopefully I can use something else as my remedy.
